الْحُبُّ حَرَّكُهُمْ لِكُلِّ جِدَالِ
وَالْحُبُّ أَقْحَمَهُمْ عَلَى الأَهْوَالِ
Love stirred them to every dispute,
and love drove them headlong against the terrors.
وَالْحًبُّ قَاطَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَأَضَلَّهُمْ
عَنْ نَيْلِ مَا رَامُوهُ كُلَّ ضَلاَلِ
Love severed the bonds between them and led them astray
from attaining what they sought—utterly astray.
وَالْحُبُّ أَنْشَأَ فِيهِمُ عَصَبِيَّةً
بِالقِيلِ أَضْرَمَ نَارَهَا وَالْقَالِ
Love bred partisan solidarity among them;
with hearsay and gossip, it set its fire ablaze.
