لمَنْ علَمٌ في هضْبَةِ المُلْكِ خفّاقُ

أفاقَتْ بهِ منْ غَشْيَةِ الهَرْجِ آفاقُ

Whose banner flutters in the plateau of royalty,

Its horizons have emerged from the gloom of confusion,

تُقِلّ رِياحُ النّصْرِ منْهُ غَمامةً

تُمَدُّ لَها أيْدٍ وتخْضَعُ أعناقُ

Winds of victory waft its clouds away from it,

To which hands extend and necks bow down.

وبَيعَةُ شُورَى أحْكَمَ السّعْدُ عقْدَها

وأُعْمِلَ إجْماعٌ علَيْها وإصْفاقُ

The blessed council ratified its pledge firmly,

By consensus it was implemented categorically.

قَضى عُمَرٌ فيه بحقّ محمّدٍ

فسُجِّلَ عهْدٌ للوَفاءِ وميثاقُ

Umar ruled by the right of Muhammad,

So a covenant of loyalty and pact was registered.

أحُلْماً تَرى عيْنايَ أمْ هيَ يَقظَةٌ

أعِنْدَكُما في مُشْكِلِ الأمْرِ مِصْداقُ

Are my eyes seeing a dream or wakefulness?

Do you have evidence regarding the dilemma?

وِفاضٌ لفَضْلِ اللهِ في الأرضِ تُبْتَغى

ومُجْتَمَعاتٌ لا تَريبُ وأسواقُ

An outpouring of God’s grace spreads across the land,

Markets abound without doubt.

وسرْحٌ تُهَنّيه الكَلاءَةُ بالكُلى

وفَلْحٌ لسَقْيِ الغيْثِ قام لهُ ساقُ

And freedom where partridges congratulate the meadows,

And agriculture watered by rain stands on stems.

وقد كانَ طيْفُ الحُلْمِ لا يُعمِلُ الخُطى

وللفِتْنَةِ العَمياءِ في الأرضِ إطْباقُ

Previously the specter of dreams did not walk surely

And blindness roamed freely on earth.

وللغَيْثِ إمْساكٌ وفي الأرضِ رَجّةٌ

وللدّينِ والدُنْيا وُجومٌ وإطْراقُ

Rain held back while the land cracked,

Religion and world glared and frowned.

فكُلّ فَريقٍ فيهِ للبَغْيِ رايةٌ

وكلُّ طَريقٍ فيه للعَيْثِ طُرّاقُ

Every group raised for mischief a banner,

And every path sheltered for harm a vagrant.

أجَلْ إنّهُ من آلِ يعْقوب وارِثٌ

يحِنُّ لهُ البيتُ العَتيقُ ويشْتاقُ

Verily, he is from the House of Jacob an heir

For whom the Ancient House yearns and longs.

لهُ من جَناحِ الرّوحِ ظِلٌّ مُسجَّفٌ

ومنْ رَفْرَفِ العِزِّ الإلاهِيِّ رُسْتاقُ

He has from the wing of the soul a stretched shade

And from the fluttering of divine glory a porch.

أطَلَّ على الدُنْيا وقدْ عادَ ضوْؤهَا

دُجىً وعلَى الأحْداقِ للذُعْرِ إحْداقُ

He looked upon the world after its light had returned

Gloomy while eyes stared in horror,

وأشْرَقَتِ الأرْجاءُ منْ نُورِ ربِّها

وساحَ بِها للهِ لُطْفٌ وإشْفاقُ

And horizons shone from the light of their Lord

As kindness and compassion from God roamed through it.

فمِنْ ألْسُنٍ للّهِ بالشُّكْرِ أعلَنَتْ

وكان لَه منْ قبْلُ همْسٌ وإطْباقُ

Then tongues declared thanks to God

While before there was for Him a whisper and concealment.

وليْسَ لأمْرٍ أبْرَمَ اللهُ ناقِضٌ

وليسَ لمَسْعىً أنْجَحَاللهُ إخْفاقُ

No repealer for what God has resolved

And no effort made successful by God fails.

محَمّدُ قد أحْيَيْتَ دينَ محمّدٍ

وللخَلْقِ أذْماءٌ تَفيضُ وأرْماقُ

O Muhammad, you have revived the religion of Muhammad

And for people miseries overflow and sustain.

ولو لمْ تثِبْ غَطّى على شفَقِ الضُحى

دمٌ لسُيوفِ البَغْيِ في الأرضِ مُهْراقُ

And had it not been affirmed, blood would have covered

The face of dawn from swords of mischief in the land spilled.

فأيْمِنْ بمَشْحونٍ منَ الفُلْكِ سابِحٍ

لهُ باخْتيارِ اللهِ حطٌّ وإيساقُ

So proceed confidently leading the ship

With God’s guidance it berths and anchors.

أقَلَّكَ والدّأماءُ تُظْهِرُ طاعة

إلَيْكَ وصفْحُ الماءِ أزْرَقُ رَقْراقُ

It carried you while reptiles showed obedience

And the surface of the water rippled turquoise.

فخُطّتْ لتقْويمِ القَوامِ جداوِلٌ

وصحّتْ منَ التّوفيقِ واليُمْنِ أوْفاقُ

So schedules for reform were put in place

And integrations from success and prosperity ensued.

تَبارَكَ مَنْ أهْداكَ للخَلْقِ رحْمَةً

ومُستَبْعَدٌ أنْ يُهمِلَ الخَلْقَ خلاّقُ

Blessed is He who guided you as a mercy to creation

And remote is that the Creator would neglect creation.

هوَ اللهُ يبْلو النّاسَ بالخَيْر فِتْنَةً

وبالشّرِّ والأيّامُ سُمٌّ وتَرْياقُ

He is God testing people with good and evil

And days are poison and antidote.

سمَتْ منْكَ أعْناقُ الوَرى لخَليفَةٍ

لهُ في مَجالِ السّعْدِ وخْدٌ وإعْناقُ

From you the necks of mankind submitted to a caliph

For whom in the scope of fortune is devotion and servitude.

وقالوا بَنانٌ ما استقلَّ بكفّهِ

تفيضُ على العافينَ أمْ هيَ أرْزاقُ

And they said, are crops that his palms reap

Abundance overflowing upon the prosperous or provisions?

وأطْنَبَ فيكَ المادِحونَ وأغْرَقوا

فلمْ يُجْدِ إطْنابٌ منْكَ ولمْ يغْنِ إغْراقُ

Those who praise you are profuse but do not suffice

Just as your generosity does not cease or deplete.

ألسْتَ منَ القومِ الذينَ أكُفُّهُمْ

غَمامُ ندىً إنْ أخْلَفَ الغيْثَ غَيْداقُ

Are you not of a people whom when late rain clouds fail

A cloud of dew shelters and gratifies?

ألسْتَ منَ القومِ الذينَ وُجوهُهُمْ

بُدورٌ لَها في ظُلمَةِ الرّوْعِ إشْراقُ

Are you not of a people whom when terror spreads in darkness

Their faces shine radiating light?

رياضٌ إذا العافِي اسْتَظَلّ ظِلالَها

فَفيها جَنىً مِلْءَ الأكُفِّ وإيرَاقُ

Gardens, when the prosperous rests in their shade

In them is produce filling palms and pouring bounty.

أبوكَ وَليُّ العَهْدِ لوْ سالَمَ الرّدَى

وجَدُّكَ قد فاقَ المُلوكَ وإنْ فاقُوا

Your father and the crown prince, had they survived fate

Your excellence would have surpassed even if they were supreme.

فمَنْ ذا لهُ جدٌّ كجَدّكَ أو أبٌ

لَلآلئُ والمجْدُ المؤثّلُ نسّاقُ

So who has a grandfather like yours or father

For whom pearls and layered glory cascade?

وحسْبُ العُلَى في آلِ يعْقوبَ أنّهُمْ

همُ الأصْلُ في العَلْياءِ والناسُ ألْحاقُ

The distinction of the elite House of Jacob is

That they are the origin while people branches.

أُسودُ سُروجٍ أو بُدورُ أسِرّةٍ

فإنْ حارَبوا راعُوا وإن سالَموا راقُوا

Lions of litters or full moons of noble ladies

When at war they observe pact and when at peace they agree.

يَطولُ لتحْصيلِ الكَمالِ سُهادُهُمْ

فهُمْ للمَعالي والمَكارِمِ عُشّاقُ

To obtain perfection their nights are long

For they are lovers of high morals and virtues.

لَئِنْ نسِيَتْ إحْسانَ جدِّكَ فِرْقَة

تُزَرُّ علَى أعْناقِهِمْ منْهُ أطْواقُ

If the party forgot your grandfather’s favor

Shackles from it would wrap around their necks.

أجارَتْ خُروجَ ابْنِ ابْنِهِ عنْ تُراثِهِ

ولمْ تدْرِ ما ضمّتْ منَ الذِّكْرِ أوْراقُ

The exit of his grandson from his inheritance was justified

While papers did not record what they drafted.

ومنْ دونِ ما رامُوهُ للهِ قُدْرَةٌ

ومن دونِ ما أمّوهُ للفتْحِ أغْلاقُ

And without what they attempted is God’s power

And without what they schemed for victory are barriers.

خُذِ العَفْوَ وابْذُلْ فِيهمُ العُرْفَ ولْتَسَعْ

جَريرَةَ مَنْ أبْدى لكَ الغَدْرَ أخْلاقُ

Take pardon and show them courtesy

And tolerate the immorality of those who betrayed you.

فربَّتَما تَنْبو مهَنّدَةُ الظُّبا

وتَهْفو حُلومُ القوْمِ والقومُ حُذّاقُ

Sometimes the zeal of Hyena diminishes

And the gall of the tribe mellows although they are sharp.

وما الناسُ إلا مُذْنِبٌ وابْنُ مُذْنِبٍ

ولِلّهِ إرْفادٌ علَيْهِمْ وإرْفاقُ

People are but sinful sons of sinners

And God has upon them grace and deference.

ولا تَرْجُ في كلِّ الأمورِ سوى الذي

خزائِنُهُ ما ضرّها قطُّ إنْفاقُ

And hope not in matters except He who

His treasures harm no spending.

إذا هوَ أعطى لمْ يَضِرْ منْعُ مانِعٍ

وإنْ حُشِدَتْ طسْمٌ وعادٌ وعِمْلاقُ

If He gives the prevention of a preventer does not harm

Even if Tasm and Aad and Amalek collude.

عرَفْتَ الرّدى واسْتأثَرَتْ بكَ للعِدَى

تُخومٌ بمُخْتَطِّ الصّليبِ وأعْماقُ

You knew sedition and the transgressors took you exclusively

Borders of those who carry the cross and depths.

فيَسّرَ لليُسْرَى وأحْيَى بكَ الوَرى

وللرّوعِ إرْعادٌ علَيْكَ وإبْراقُ

So He made easy relief and revived thereby the land

While intimidation against you lightened and flashed.

فجازِ صَنيعَ اللهِ وازْدَدْ بشُكْرِهِ

مَواهِبَ جودٍ غيْثُها الدّهْرَ دفّاقُ

Then reward God’s work and increase by thanking Him

Gifts of generosity whose rain upon ages pours.

فأوْفِ لمَنْ أوفى وكافِ الذي كَفى

فأنْتَ كريمٌ طهُرَتْ منْهُ أعْراقُ

So perform for one who performed and suffice he who sufficed

You are generous whose veins are pure.

وتَهْنيكَ يا مَوْلَى المُلوكِ خِلافةٌ

شجَتْها تَباريحٌ إليْكَ وأشْواقُ

And congratulations O Master of Kings for caliphate

Whose dawns yearned and longed for you.

فقدْ بلَغَتْ أقصى المُنى بكَ نفسُها

وكمْ فازَ بالوصْلِ المُهَنّأِ مُشْتاقُ

Indeed their souls have achieved their ultimate wish through you

And many who longed attained the union they coveted.

فلا راعَ منْها السِّرْبَ للدّهْرِ رائِعٌ

ولا نالَ منْها جِدّةَ السّعْدِ إخْلاقُ

None thereafter diverted them from the course of time

Nor any prayer of fortune attained their company.

أمَوْلايَ راعَ الدّهْرُ سِرْبي وغالَني

فطَرْفيَ مذعورٌ وقلْبِيَ خفّاقُ

My Master, time has diverted my flock and disdained me

So my eyes are fearful and heart throbbing.

وليسَ لكَسْري غيْرَكَ اليومَ جابِرٌ

ولا ليَدي إلا بمَجْدِكَ إعْلاقُ

For my fracture none today can mend but you

And my hands can only cling to your glory.

ولي فيكَ وُدٌّ واعْتِدادٌ غرَسْتُهُ

فراقَت بِه منْ يانِعِ الحمْدِ أوْراقُ

And for you in me is affection and regard I have planted

Whose foliage with bountiful praise flourished.

وقد عيلَ صبْري في ارْتِقابي خليفَةً

تُحَلُّ بهِ للضُّرِّ عنّي أوْهاقُ

My patience in awaiting a caliph has worn out

Through whom the causes of harm may depart from me.

وأنتَ حُسامُ اللهِ والله ناصِرٌ

وأنتَ أمينُ اللهِ واللهُ رَزّاقُ

You are God’s sword and God is the victor

You are God’s trustee and God is the sustainer.

وأنتَ الأمانُ المُسْتَجار منَ الرّدى

إذا لمْ يكُنْ عزْمٌ حَثيثٌ وإرْهاقُ

You are the trusted sanctuary from fate

If solid resolve and exertion do not exist.

ودونَكَها منْ ذائِعِ الحمْدِ مُخْلِصٍ

لهُ فيكَ تقْييدٌ يَروقُ وإطْلاقُ

And none below you has sincerity in splendid praise

For him in you is an accord that pleases and releases.

إذا قالَ أمّا كُلُّ سمْعٍ لقوْلِه

فمُصْغٍ وأمّا كلّ أنْفٍ فنشّاقُ

If he says “Every ear to his word listens

And every self refractory to him is defiant.”

ودُمْ خافِقَ الأعْلامِ بالنّصْرِ كلّما

ذهبْتَ لمسْعىً لم يكُنْ فيه إخْفاقُ

And blood pulsating flags with your victories whenever

You went for a purpose failing you did not.
