وَلَمَّا رَأَتْ عَزْمِي حَثِيثاً عَلَى السُّرَى

وَقَدْ رَابَهَا صَبْرِي عَلَى مَوْقِفِ الْبَيْنِ

When she saw my determination firmly set on parting

And my patience had unsettled her at the point of separation

أََتَتْ بِصِحَاحِ الْجَوْهَرِيّ دُمُوعُهَا

فَعَارَضْتُ مِنْ دَمْعِي بِمُخْتَصَرِ الْعَيْنِ

She came with tears flowing like the copious sea

And I contested with tears condensed in one eye
