وَأَحْوَلَ يُعْدِي القَلْبَ سُقْمُ جفُونِهِ

فَتُضْحِي صَحِيحَاتُ القُلُوبِ بِهِ مَرْضَى

Illness passes from his eyelids to afflict the heart

So the healthy of heart become sick because of him

رَأَى الْحُسْنُ أَنَّ اللَّحْظَ مِنْهُ مُهَنَّدٌ

فَحَرَّفَهُ كَيْمَا يَكُونُ لَهُ أَمْضَى

Beauty saw that a glance from it was deadly

So it disfigured itself so it would be less fatal
