1. بحيْثُ القبابُ البيضُ والأسَلُ السُّمْرُ

    لُيوثُ غُيوثٍ كلّما أخْلَفَ القَطْرُ

    With white domes and brown horses

    Whenever the rain stopped, warriors roared

  2. مَقاولُ منْ أقْيالِ سعْدِ بنِ خَزْرَجٍ

    أنوفُهُمُ شُمٌّ وأوْجُهُهُمْ غُرُّ

    Builders from the ancestors of Sa'd ibn Khuzaymah

    With keen sense of smell and bright faces

  3. يُشَبّ على أبْياتِهِم ضَرَمُ القِرى

    فيَهْدي إذا ما ضَلّ في السّفْرِ السّفْرُ

    Their tents are pitched around the villages

    Guiding the lost traveler on his journey

  4. يَقولونَ والآفاقُ غُبْرٌ مُغيمَةٌ

    كأنّ على الأرْجاءِ أرْديةٌ غُبْرُ

    They say, while the horizons are obscured by clouds

    As if there are dust-colored cloaks over the lands

  5. إذا الوَفْرُ لم يُدْلِلْ على الحمْدِ ربَّهُ

    فَلا جلّتِ النّعْمى ولا وَفَرَ الوَفْرُ

    If affluence does not make one thank their Lord

    Blessings are not complete, no matter how abundant

  6. وما العُمْرُ إلا زينَةٌ مُسْتَعارَةٌ

    تُرَدُّ ولكِنّ الثّناءَ هوَ العُمْرُ

    Life is but borrowed finery

    Though praise lasts forever

  7. وإنْ زَحَفوا منْ دونِ رايَةِ يوسُفٍ

    تَقولُ تَعالَى مَنْ لهُ الخَلْقُ والأمْرُ

    Even if they march without Yusuf's banner

    The Most High says: "To Him belong creation and command"

  8. وتَبْصِرُ سُحْباً منْ دُروعٍ سَوابغٍ

    يَطيرُ بِها عزْمٌ ويَقْدُمُها نصْرُ

    You see a sea of long coats of mail

    Borne by determination and preceded by victory

  9. إمامٌ بهِ عَزَّ الهُدى وتبادَرَتْ

    لطاعَتِهِ الدُّنْيا وذَلّ بهِ الكُفْرُ

    A leader in whom the guidance has its glory

    The world obeyed him and disbelief was humiliated

  10. وأصْبَحَ ثغْرُ الثّأرِ يَبْسِمُ ضاحِكاً

    وقد كانَ ممّا نابَهُ ليْسَ يَفْتَرُّ

    The smile of vengeance beamed

    After frowning for so long it did not frown again

  11. أقامَ سِياجَ السِّلْمِ دونَ ذِمارِهِ

    فَلا ظِنّةٌ تعْرَى ولا روْعَةٌ تَعْرو

    He established safeguards for peace around his enemies

    So no suspicion can be raised or fear created

  12. تَناقَلَتِ الرُّكْبانُ طيبَ حَديثِهِ

    فلمّا رأوْهُ صدّقَ الخَبَرَ الخُبْرُ

    Travelers transmitted news of his generosity

    When they saw him, news verified the reports

  13. فضاءٌ تَضيقُ الأرْضُ عنْهُ برَحْبِها

    وشِيمَةُ حِلْمٍ لا يَضيقُ بِها صدْرُ

    A man whom the vast earth cannot contain

    The attribute of forbearance that does not constrain the chest

  14. فَما عَمْرو إنْ قِيسَ يوْماً ببأسِهِ

    وإنْ وصَفوهُ بالدّهاءِ فَما عَمْرُو

    What is Amr worth if his valor is weighed

    And they describe him as cunning? But Amr is not so

  15. لكَ اللهُ ما أمْضى سُيوفَكَ في العِدى

    إذا ما أسودُ الحرْبِ خامَرَها الذّعْرُ

    May God preserve the sharpness of your sword in battle

    When the thick of war makes them quiver with fear

  16. ودارَتْ على أبْطالِها أكؤسُ الرّدى

    فَمالَتْ كأنّ القوْمَ أزْرى بِها السُّكْرُ

    When cups of misfortune circulated among their heroes

    They swayed as if drunk although they tasted no wine

  17. وأيُّ فؤادٍ منْهُمُ غيْرُ خافِقٍ

    إذا خفَقَتْ في الحرْبِ أعْلامُكَ الحُمْرُ

    And which heart of theirs does not flutter

    When your red banners flutter in battle?

  18. ومُدّتْ الى اللهِ الأكُفَّ ضَراعَةً

    فقالَ لهنّ اللهُ قدْ قُضيَ الأمْرُ

    They stretched out their palms to God pleading

    And God said: “The matter has been decreed”

  19. وألْبَسَها النُّعْمى ببَيْعَتِكَ التي

    بِها أمِنَ الإسْلامَ وانْسَدَلَ السَّتْرُ

    Cloaking them in the blessing of your pledge

    Through which Islam was made safe and the veil lowered

  20. وجاءَتْكَ كالآرامِ تخْتال في الحُلى

    جِيادُ المَذاكي والمُحَجّلَةُ الغُرُّ

    They came to you adorned like bridal carriages

    Stallions of pride, beautifully adorned mares

  21. وِرادٌ وشُقْرٌ واضِحاتٌ شِياتُها

    فأجْسامُها تِبْرٌ وأرْجُلُها دُرُّ

    Clear-coated steeds, smooth in gait

    Sturdy in body yet gentle in step

  22. وشُهْبٌ إذا ما ضُمِّرَتْ يوْمَ غارَةٍ

    مطهَّمةٌ غارَتْ بِها الشّهْبُ الزُّهْرُ

    Fiery when embroiled in raid by night

    Charging with stars shining like flowers

  23. طَوافِحُ في أرْسانِهنّ فَوارِهٌ

    يَبينُ على أعْطافِها الزّهْوُ والكِبْرُ

    Lovely smooth mounts, magnificently equipped

    Beauty and pride show in their trappings

  24. كأنّي بهِمْ لمّا تَعاطَوْا حديثَها

    وأعْناقُهُمْ ميلٌ وأعْيُنُهمْ خُزْرُ

    I imagine them, when they relayed the news

    Their necks tilted, their eyes dazzled

  25. وجاشوا الى رأيِ منَ الكُفْرِ فائِلٍ

    وغرّهُمُ الشّيْطانُ باللهِ فاغْتَرّوا

    Then they swarmed to the view of the apostate

    Satan seduced them; they were fooled

  26. وربُّكَ بالنّصْرِ المؤزَّرِ كافِلٌ

    فعادَتُهُ في قومِكَ العَضْدُ والنّصْرُ

    But your Lord will aid you with heavy assistance

    His custom with your people is help and victory

  27. كأنّك قدْ ذمّرْتَ كلَّ كَتيبةٍ

    غَنائِمُها بيضٌ وآسالُها سُمْرُ

    As if you have readied every brigade

    Spoils white, horses brown

  28. إذا ما انْجلَى عنها القَتام تدافَعَتْ

    على الأرضِ منْ ماذِيِّها لُجَجٌ خُضْرُ

    When darkness lifts, green carpets struggle

    Over the ground, from the blood their wounds spilled

  29. عليْها منَ الأبْطالِ كلَّ مجرِّبٍ

    نِقابٍ تَساوى عنْدَهُ الحُلْوُ والمُرُّ

    Over them, every seasoned warrior

    Wears a veil; to him sweet and bitter are equal

  30. فدوَّخَتِ الآفاقَ حتّى أنيسُها

    خَلاءٌ وحتّى ربْعُها بلْقَعٌ قَفْرُ

    They shook the horizon until its landmarks

    Became empty wastelands and its fertile lands barren ruins

  31. لقَدْ ضَلّ مَنْ يَبْغي من البحْرِ ضَلّة

    ولمْ يدْرِ أنّ البَحْرَ أنْمُلُكَ العشْرُ

    Surely one who seeks to cross the sea is lost

    Not knowing you own ten-fold that sea

  32. وعاشٍ لِنورِ النّيِّرَيْنِ بزَعْمِهِ

    وما الشّمْسُ إلا دونَ وجْهِكَ والبَدْرُ

    One who boasts of the light of two lamps

    When the sun and moon are less than your face and the full moon!

  33. تلقّيْتَ شهْرَ الصّومِ بالبِرِّ والتُّقى

    تودُّ بأنْ لا ينْقَضي ذلِكَ الشّهْرُ

    You met the month of fasting with righteousness and piety

    Wishing that month would never end

  34. وودَّعَ يَثْني بالذي أنْتَ أهْلُهُ

    وقدْ جلّتِ الزُّلْفى وقد عظُمَ الأجْرُ

    Then it bid farewell, doubled for what you deserve

    Great gifts and ample reward

  35. ووافاكَ شهْرُ الصّوْمِ يُزْهى بغُرّةٍ

    ترِفُّ بِها البُشْرى ويَبْدو بِها البِشْرُ

    The fasting month then greeted you clothed in splendor

    In it glad tidings and good news appeared

  36. أتَيْتَ مُصَلاّه على قدَمِ الرِّضى

    وقدْ عظُمَ التّمْجيدُ للّهِ والذِّكْرُ

    You came to pray, well pleased

    Praise and remembrance of God magnified

  37. وقد غصَّ منْ وُسْعِ السّبيكَةِ وُسْعُها

    وجرَّ بِها أذْيالَهُ العَسْكُرُ المَجْرُ

    The robe of honor was filled to overflowing

    The army’s trains dragged over the ground

  38. وما رِيءَ منْ مثْلٍ لهُ يوْمَ زينَةٍ

    كأنّ نَضيرَ الزّهْر راقَ بهِ الزّهْرُ

    None were adorned on any day of display

    As if flowers were envious of flowers that day

  39. ودارَتْ منَ الأغْزازِ تحْتَ لوائِها

    رُماةٌ على أوْتارِها للعِدا وتْرُ

    Arrows circled under flags

    Bowstrings taut for battle and to smite

  40. إذا اضْطَبَنوا أقْواسَهُمْ وتمَنْطَقوا

    فتُبْصِرُ جيْشَ التُّرْكِ جاشَتْ بهِ مِصْرُ

    When they notch arrows and strap on quivers

    You see the Turks swarm through Egypt

  41. فهُنّيتَهُ عيداً سَعيداً إذا انْقَضى

    أتَتْكَ ضُروبٌ منْهُ ليْسَ لَها حصْرُ

    When it concluded, you celebrated a joyous feast

    Gifts of which there was no count came to you

  42. ولا زِلْتَ في مُلْكٍ مَنيعٍ مؤيَّدٍ

    تهَشُّ لهُ الدُّنْيا ويعْنو لهُ الدّهْرُ

    Still you rule a strong and aided kingdom

    For which the world is awed and time bows

  43. إذا نحْنُ أثْنَيْنا عليْكَ بمِدْحَةٍ

    فهَيْهاتَ يُحْصى الرّمْلُ أو يُحْصَرُ القَطْرُ

    When we praise you in verse

    Can sand be counted or drops of rain limited?

  44. ولكنّنا نأتي بِما نسْتَطيعُهُ

    ومَنْ بذَلَ المَجْهودَ حُقَ لهُ العُذْرُ

    Rather, we bring what we are able

    He who strives is owed excuse
