تعجّلْتُ وخْطَ الشّيبِ في زَمَنِ الصِّبا
لخَوْضي غِمارَ الهَمِّ في طَلَبِ المَجْدِ
I brought on gray hair’s first streaks in the season of youth,
by plunging into the depths of care in pursuit of glory.
فمَهْما رأيْتُمْ شَيْبَةً فوْقَ مَفْرِقي
فلا تُنْكِروها إنّها شَيْبَةُ الحَمْدِ
So whatever gray you see upon the crown of my head,
do not find it strange—it is the gray hair of praise.
