حَمِدْتُ عَلَى فَرْطِ الْمَشَقَّةِ رِحْلَةً
أَتَاحَتْ لِعَينِي اجْتِلاَءَ مُحَيَّاكَا
In love’s excess, I praised your mercy toward me;
it let my eyes behold your countenance.
وَقَدْ كُنْتُ بِالتَّذْكَارِ فِي الْبُعْدِ قَانِعاً
وَبِالرِّيحِ إِنْ هَبَّتْ بِعَاطر رَيَّاكَا
I had been content, while far away, with remembrance,
and with the breeze whenever it blew, laden with your fragrant scent.
فَجَلَّتْ لِيَ النُّعْمَى بِمَا أَنْعَمَتْ بِهِ
عَلَيَّ فَحَيَّاهَا الإِلاَهُ وَحَيَّاكَا
How great to me was the blessing in what it bestowed
upon me—may God bless it, and bless you.
