The fingers of my maker embroidered my brocade,

after stringing the jewels of my crown.

    I rivaled the bride’s throne—and surpassed it—

for I guaranteed the happiness of married couples.

Whoever comes to me complaining of thirst—my spring

is pure, sweet, limpid water, wholly unmixed.

Thus I am like heaven’s bow whenever it appears,

while the sun is our lord Abu al-Hajjaj.

May his dwelling place remain protected as long as

the House of God remains the pilgrims’ place of return.
