خضّبْتُها بعْدَما لاحَ المشيبُ وقدْ

جوّزْتُ في العَقْلِ كتْمَ الصُبْح بالغَبَشِ

I dyed it after the gray hair appeared, and I

Concealed the dawn in my mind with dust.

فاضَ البياضُ علَى رغْمِ السّوادِ بها

ويرْشَحُ الدّمْعُ تحْتَ الكُحْلِ في العَمَشِ

The whiteness overflowed despite the blackness in it.

And tears flow under the kohl in the eyelids.
