يَميناً بِيانِعِ وَرْدِ الخُدودْ

وعَذْبِ اللّمى في الشّهيِّ البَرودْ

With a radiant, rosy cheek

And sweet gentle eyes that make the cold tender,

وزَوْرَةِ حِبٍّ على غَفلَةٍ

ووصْلٍ ألَمّ برَبْع الصَّدودْ

And the visit of love to one unaware

And a union that stung the defiant bosoms,

وإلا بمُنْهَلِّ صَوْبِ الحَيا

وخَفْقِ البُنودِ وقَصْفِ الرّعودْ

Would I find respite at the spring of dignified life

Or in the fluttering of lightning and rumbling of thunder,

لأَنْتَ صَباحُ ظَلامِ الخُطوبِ

وكفُّكَ مِفْتاحُ بابِ السّعودْ

You are the morning dispelling the gloom of misfortunes

And your palm is the key to the door of good fortune,

جَمالُكَ مَعْنى جَمالِ الوجودِ

وبابُكَ مغْنَى مَضاءٍ وجُودْ

Your beauty is the essence of the grace of existence

And your door is abundant illumination and generosity,

ورِضْوانُ أعْظَمُ شَيْءٍ يَدُلُّ

على أنّ دارَكَ دارُ الخُلودْ

And being pleased with you is the greatest thing

Indicating your abode is the eternal realm,

أعَدْتَ الخِلافَةَ أنْوارَها

سَواطِعُ منْ بُعْدِ طولِ الخُمودْ

You have restored the caliphate and its lights

Beaming after a long slumber,

وألّفْتَ بالعَدْلِ بيْنَ القُلوبِ

وفرّقْتَ بينَ الظُّبا والغُمودْ

And you have united hearts with justice

And separated the wolves from the sheep,

فهَزّ بكَ الدّينُ أعْطافَهُ

كَما اهْتزّ غُصْنُ الرِّياضِ المَجودْ

So religion quaked for you

As a lush branch quivers,

إذا كانَ مدْحُ مُلوكِ الوَرى

نِظاماً فمدْحُكَ بيْتُ القَصيدْ

If praising earthly kings

Is a string of pearls, praising you is the heart of the ode,

ألَسْتَ منَ القومِ حازوا النّدى

وخاضُوا الى الرّوْعِ بابَ الحَديدْ

Are you not among those who obtained dew

And plunged into the dreadful with blades of steel,

وسَلّوا علَيْهِ سُيوفاً تَسيلُ

على صَفْحَتَيْها دِماءُ الوَريدْ

Brandishing swords that shed

The blood of veins upon their surfaces?
