1. تَلَوَّى ظَلاَمُ اللَّيْلِ بِالصُّبْحِ ظَالِماً

    إِلَى أَنْ تَبَدَّى الضَّوْءُ وَانْقَشَعَ الْحَلَكْ

    The darkness of night twisted with the dawn, unjust

    Until the light appeared and the veil was lifted

  2. كَمَا سَرَقَ الْعَبْدُ الْعَبُوسُ عِمَامَةً

    فَأّخْرَجَهَا مِنْ تَحْتِهِ حَاكِمُ الْفَلَكْ

    As the sullen slave stole a turban

    So the ruler of fate brought it out from under him
