وَلَمَّا رَأَتْ عَزْمِي حَثِيثاً عَلَى السُّرَى
وَقَدْ رَابَهَا صَبْرِي عَلَى مَوْقِفِ الْبَيْنِ
When she saw how intent I was on traveling by night,
And my composure at the moment of parting troubled her,
أََتَتْ بِصِحَاحِ الْجَوْهَرِيّ دُمُوعُهَا
فَعَارَضْتُ مِنْ دَمْعِي بِمُخْتَصَرِ الْعَيْنِ
Her tears brought forth al-Jawhari’s al-Sihah;
So I answered with my tears, with an abridgment of al-Ayn.
