دَعتَك دَواعِى حُبِّ سَلمَى كما دَعَا

عَلَى النَّشزِ أُخرَى التّاليات مُهِيبُ

The longing for Salma's love called you

As the verses of yearning called over ash-Nashshar

فَلَبَّيكَ مِن دَاعٍ دَعا وَلَوَ أَنَّنِى

صَدىً بَينَ أَحجارٍ لَظَلَّ يُجِيبُ

So I respond to every caller who called

Even if I were just an echo between stones, I would still respond

وَدَاعِي الهَوَى يَغشَى المَنِيَّةَ بِالفَتَى

وَيَعثُرُ عَقلُ المَرءِ وَهوَ لَبِيبُ

And the caller of passion overwhelms the beloved with the youth

And a man's reason stumbles though he is sensible

فلِلّهِ دَرِّ يَومَ صحراءِ عالجٍ

وَدَرُّ الهَوَى إِنِّى لَهُ لَحَبِيبُ

So praise be to God for the day in the desert of Aaleej

And praise be passion's home, for I am its lover

وَدَرُّ بَلائِى مِن هَواكِ فإنَّهُ

لِعَلِى وَإِن غالَبتُهُ لَغَلُوبُ

And praise my torment from your love, for it

Has overcome me, though I overpowered it, I am overcome
