وَأَذكُرُ أَيّامَ الحِمَى ثُمَّ أَنثَنِى
عَلَى كَبِدِى مِن خَشيَةٍ أَن تَصَدعَا
I recall the days of fever, then I bend
Over my liver out of fear that it might split
وَلَيسَت عَشِيّاتُ الحِمَى بِرَواجِعِ
عَلَيكَ وَلَكِن خَلِّ عَينَيكَ تَدمَعَا
And the evenings of fever do not return
To you, but let your eyes shed tears
بَكَت عَينِى اليُمنَى فَلَمّا زَجَرَتُها
عَنِ الجَهلِ بَعدَ الحِلمِ أَسبَلَتا مَعا
My right eye wept, so when I rebuked it
For ignorance after wisdom, both flowed together
