Oh my two friends whom I saw

Endowed with charm beyond any friend

Stop, let not my share and your share be weeping

Over a ruin with two pillars left standing

For I, though thankless towards God, miserably

    Followed my own inclinations

Entrusted to miserliness, its rope not tied

With lasting knots or generous favor

And every friend who does not care if he leads me

To betrayal or sells me for a friend

Your apparition comes closer to me than you when it travels

To us without description or guide

And it turns away as is its habit except

It is unrelenting in threats and promises
