حَسْبُ الوُجُودِ على التأْييدِ بُرْهانا

فَتْحٌ أعَزَّ من التَّوحِيدِ ما هانا

Proof of existence is support by confirmation

A conquest more honourable than oneness subdued

إنْ حَجَّبَ الكُفْرَ جَهْمَ الوَجْهِ عابِسَه

فَإِنَّهُ أطْلَعَ الإيمانَ جَذْلانا

Though unbelief may veil its scowling face

Faith has raised its banners far unfurled

وكَم تَمَلْمَلَ مِنْ حَيْفٍ ومَنْ جَنَفٍ

لِجَاعِلٍ نَصْرهُ المَشْرُوعَ خذْلانا

How much has it writhed at injustice and oppression

For making its legitimate cause a failing in the world

ألَمْ يَسُمْه غُرابُ الغَرْبِ يا أَسَفا

ما عادَ فيهِ جُمانُ الدَّمْعِ مرْجانا

Has not the raven of the West, alas, poisoned it

So that within it pearls of tears are no longer found

مُسْتَبْصِراً في عَمىً أَبْلَى الأَذَانَ أذىً

مِمَّا استَجَدَّ نَواقيساً وصُلبانَا

Though seeing, in the blindness that has marred its ears, harm

From what has made crosses and bells anew resound

ومُسْخِطاً باضْطِهادِ النَّاسِ رَاحمَهُم

فَكيفَ يأمُلُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ رِضْوَانَا

And angered that people are persecuted, though it pities them

How then can it hope from God for favour to be found?

لا وِزْرَ أثْقَلُ مِنْ وِزرٍ تَحَمَّلَهُ

إذ خَفَّ لو خَفَّ يَوْمَ الفَصْلِ مِيزانا

No burden is heavier than the burden it has shouldered

Which will make it tremble if the Scales of Justice sound

لَم يَثْنِ غَيّاً إلى رُشْدٍ أَعِنَّتَهُ

لا بَلْ تَعَلَّقَ أَصْناماً وأَوْثانا

It turned not to right but clung to idols and to gods

Not even the learned in holy writ could it confound

أَدالَ مِنْ عُلَماءِ الوَحْي يُجْزِؤُهُمْ

بِحَبْرَةِ الشِّرْك أحْبَاراً ورُهْبانا

When they become submissive it listens to them in passion

Deeming that like strings and tunes a sweet music has been found

إِذا هُمُ هَيْنَمُوا أَصْغَى لَهُم طَرَباً

يَخالُ ذلِكَ أَوْتاراً وَأَلْحَانَا

The case bears witness it holds not as true belief

The judgment of both the Bible and the Qur’an found

وَالحالُ شاهِدَةٌ أنْ لَيْسَ مُعتَقِداً

حُكْمَ الكِتَابَيْنِ إِنْجيلاً وَقُرْآنَا

Between pigs and monkeys it remained till faith’s foundations

And pillars were all shattered and crumbled to the ground

بَيْنَ الخَنا وَالخَنازِير اسْتَقَرَّ إِلى

أَنْ زُلْزِلَ الدِّين أساساً وأَرْكانا

Propriety's perplexity in comparing its vile nature

Makes exempt from such Asahmah and Luqman far renowned

يَقْضِي التَّحَرُّجُ في تَشْبيهِ سُحْمَتِهِ

تَنْزِيه أصْحَمَةٍ عَنْهَا ولُقْمَانَا

It resembles most the accursed Ashram ever blamable

Most fitting to be recognized for who seeks knowledge sound

يَكْسُومُ والأَشْرَم المَأثومُ أبْرَهَةٌ

أَحرَى لِمَنْ يَتَحَرَّى فيهِ عِرْفانَا

The Abyssinian slave cannot aspire to its banner

Why then take pride in it O sons of Abysinnia crowned?

والوَغْدُ لَن تَقْفُوَ الحُبْشانُ رايتَهُ

فَلِمْ تَباهى بِهَا أبناءُ باهانا

Their power did not ward off the shame when it collapsed

The morning after glory fell in abasement drowned

وهَبهُمُ ردءه فَما الذي دَرَؤوا

عَنه غَداة تَردى الخِزي إِدمانا

Truth has nullified all they spoke in calumny

Justice has razed all that they erected grand around

قَدْ أبْطَلَ الحَقُّ ما قالوهُ بُهْتانا

وَهَدَّمَ العَدْلُ ما شادُوهُ بُنْيانا

Expiation of the age through it is what it has distrained

When were those who reject faith keepers of oaths found?

كَفَّارَةُ الدّهْرِ فيهِ ما انْتَحاهُ بِهِ

أَيَّانَ لَمْ يُرَ في الكُفَّارِ لَيَّانا

Were the community of divine oneness his brothers

He would not have approved the association of three renowned

لَو أَنَّ طائِفةَ التوحيدِ إخْوَتُه

لم يَرْضَ شِرْذِمَةَ التثليث إخْوَانا

Yes, and even if one of them in their assembly

For snakes of censure to Adnan suffice as counsel found

نَعَمْ وإنْ عُدَّ مِنْها في ذُؤابَتِها

فإنَّ دودانَ تَعْيير لِعَدْنانا

Far removed from him is the carrion-eating raven, corrupt guide

Full of clerics who summon wrong at the appointed sound

بُعْداً لَهُ مِنْ غُرابٍ قائدٍ رَخَماً

مِلْءَ المَلا تَعِدُ الديَّانَ عُدْوانا

He has harmed his sons by harming the servants, so say

Has he been among bands bent in injustice crowned?

أَضْرَى بَنِيه عَلى ضُرِّ العِباد فَقُلْ

في زُمْرَةٍ هَدَجَتْ لِلظُّلْمِ ظِلْمَانا

Unaware that God's sword whose voracious appetite is them

When they are stripped bare, undefiled, on ground unhallowed found

وَما دَرَى أَنَّ سَيْفَ اللَّهِ آكِلُهُمْ

إذَا هُمُ اسْتَلَمُوا عُرْيانَ غُرْثَانا

If to flee in defeat has been their destruction

Then cease perpetual injustice, tyranny unbound

فَإِنْ يَكُنْ قَطَعَ الإدْبَارُ دَابِرَهُمْ

فَعَنْ مُوَاصَلَةٍ للطَّوْلِ طُغْيانا

Thus wrongdoing is blameworthy and its consequence

Suffices you what succeeded the tyrants tyranny found

كَذَلِكَ الظّلْمُ مَذْمُومٌ عَوَاقِبُهُ

يَكْفِيكَ مَا أعْقَبَ العُدْوَانُ عُدْوانا

All who appraise fate in an instant, consider him so

Until destruction makes his well-being unsound

وكُلّ مَنْ حَسِبَ الأقْدَارَ في سِنَةٍ

فَاحسِبْه وهْوَ مِنَ الأَيْقَاظِ وَسْنانا

Until famine's emaciation makes his health decline

It led him to seek a degrading possession in Tlemcen found

حَتَّى إذَا العَطَبُ اسْتَحيَا سَلامَتَه

أفَاءهُ يَبْتَغِي بَغْياً تِلِمْسانا

Look at him, seized by God in sorrow

Hear of him, he has betrayed, disgraced, renowned

وكانَ مِنْ قِيلِهِ هِيَ التُّرَاثُ لَهُ

ما بالَهُ جَهِلَ التَّصحِيف لا كانا

In Wujdah, passion of love the doves above his life

Attacked her so that they were by wrath removed, downed

ظَمْآنُ رَاحَ لأُفْقِ الشَّرْق مُلْتَهِما

لَكِنْ غَدَا بِنَجِيع الجَوْفِ رَيَّانا

He came to a bare castle which extracted

A spirit whose foulness had spirit and body bound

فَانْظُرْ إلَيْهِ أخِيذَ اللَّهِ عَنْ أسَفٍ

أرْدَاه واسْمَعْ بِهِ قَدْ خَانَ خَزْيانا

When death saw him bankrupt of propriety

It clothed him in the red blood spilled dishonoured, renowned

بوَجْدَةٍ أظْهَرَ الوَجْدُ الحِمَامَ عَلى

حَيَاتِه فَنَضاها عَنْه غَضْبانا

Even the steed that had protected him

Destroyed him in hate and humiliation drowned

واسْتَقْبَلَ القَلْعَةَ الشَّمَّاءَ فَاقْتَلَعَتْ

رُوحاً لهُ خَبُثَتْ رُوحاً وَجُثْمَانا

A rod that repeated death for him

Did not give him respite like Moses' serpent found

لمَّا رَأَتْهُ المَنايا مَعْدَماً شيَماً

كَسَتْهُ مِنْ دَمِهِ المَطْلُولِ عِقْيَانا

His downfall on the hand of my father who gave him life

Was a fate whose bond with him was like a raging lion found

حَتَّى الجَوَادُ الذِي قَدْ كانَ يَعْصِمُهُ

أرْداهُ يَقْصِمُهُ بُغضاً وإِهْوانا

Routing from his house was destruction upon them

At the hands of One whose help is like a firm wrist unbound

سَقْياً لِعَوْدٍ أعادَتْهُ المَنُونُ له

عَصَا الكَليم فَلَم يُمْهِلْهُ ثُعْبانا

High did he and his son amongst them become

Aspiring through attaining vengeance to rule crowned

وَلا تَعُدَّ صَعيداً خَانَهُ زَلَقاً

وافٍ مِنَ المُزْنِ مَهْمَا خانَ أَو مانَا

He seized their zeal and took away their fervour

A kingdom God refused to protect or let command found

ما بَيْنَ مُنَتَقِمٍ مِنْهُ وَمُلْتَقِم

لَهُ أُصيبَ حَسيرَ الطَّرْفِ حَسْرانا

Origin and branch, their lifetime covered them in rancour

As the winds pound upon the branches and the boughs around

ثُمَّ اسْتَباحَتْهُ وَاسْتَاقَتْ كَرَائِمَه

أعْوَانُ صِدْقٍ تَرَى الأَقْدَارَ أَعْوَانا

I see them driven, their faces visible

Upon the pages of the wall abject, vile hounds

لاقَى الرَّدَى بِأبي يَحْيَاهُم فَغَدا

لَقىً وعَهْدِي بِهِ كالليْثِ شَيْحانا

Tear them with the son of Abd al-Haqq and rend them

And before it they were not violated by Ibn Zayan found

والْفلُّ مِن بَيْتِهِ أَوْدى البَيَاتُ بِهِمْ

عَلى يَدَيْ أيِّدٍ كالعَضْبِ يَقْظَانا

Foreigners in tongue but their relation

Grows to the noblest of Arabs, Qahtan's renown

سَمَا لَهُ وابْنُهُ فِيهِمْ يَحُضّهُمُ

سُمُوَّ مُغْرىً بِنَيْلِ الثَّأرِ هَيْمَانا

Their steeds' saddles are homelands for them, sufficing is

The glory of the settled steeds' saddles as home ground

فاحْتَزَّ هَامَهُمُ وابْتَزَّ حَامَهُمُ

مُلْكاً أبَى اللَّهُ أَنْ يُحْمَى وَسُلْطَانا

They cried for Yahya's obedience and victory answered them

From God secretly and openly help was found

أَصْلاً وفَرْعاً طَوَاهُمْ دَهْرُهُم حَنقاً

كالرِّيحِ تَقْصِفُ أدْواحاً وأَغْصانا

The winds of death roared from their swords

Routing the transgressing Maghribis, whilst they did resound

كَأَنَّني بِهِمُ سُفْعاً وجُوهُهُم

تَبْدُو عَلى صَفَحاتِ السُّورِ خِيلانا

The Maqil were it not that they acted wisely

None would have survived whether young or life-matured crowned

تُخُرِّمُوا بِابْنِ عَبْدِ الحَقِّ واصْطُلِمُوا

وَقَبْلَها ما اسْتُبِيحُوا بِابْنِ زَيَّانا

God's prey are the Zanatiyeen, thought as lions

When amongst peers they prey, forefronts are renowned

أعَاجِمٌ أَلسُناً لَكِنْ مَنَاسِبُهُم

تُنْمَى إِلى العَرَبِ العَرْباءِ قَحْطَانا

His grandfather gave them positions of kingship

In service of the Al-Hafsi Imam, Abd disciples found

مُتُونُ خَيْلِهِمُ أوْطَانُهُم وَكَفَى

عِزّاً بِثاوِي مُتُونِ الخَيْلِ أَوْطَانا

They were falcons that swooped down upon cowards

And oft in war eagles screamed as they raced around

نَادَوْا بِطَاعَةِ يَحْيَى فَاسْتَجَابَ لَهُمْ

نَصْرٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ إِسْرَاراً وإِعْلانا

Soon did the unbelievers surrender and their spoils

Were shared for the present, complete, among all to be found

سَافَتْ رِيَاحُ المَنَايَا مِنْ سُيُوفِهِمُ

سُفْيانَ فَانْهَزَمَتْ يَا وَيْحَ سُفْيانا

Spreading death east and west in raids, not

Sparing the Most Sacred Sanctuary, honour bound

والمَعْقِلِيُّونَ لَولا أنَّهُمْ عَقَلُوا

نَجَاءهم مَا نَجَوْا شِيباً وشُبَّانا

Showing to the captive abjection and obedience found

There what was unrightfully placed in his treasuries

للَّهِ صيدٌ زنَاتِيُّونَ تَحْسَبُهُم

أُسْداً إِذا افْتَرَسُوا الأَقْرَان سِيدَانا

The heir to statehood possesses and holds in his surround

The Caliph Umar ibn Al-Farooq's precedence to it

أَحلَّهُمْ رُتَبَ الأَمْلاكِ جَدُّهُمُ

في خِدْمةِ القائِمِ الحَفْصِيِّ عُبْدانا

To the Mushaf of Two Lights' Uthman is sound

O you whose separation is just, clearly without doubt

صالُوا صُقوراً بِخِزَّازٍ جَثَتْ فرقاً

وَطَالَما صَرْصَرَتْ في الحَرْبِ عِقْبانا

You have maintained through it, undoubtedly, those faithful found

Though the two matters to them may seem similar

سُرْعانَ مَا أَسْلَمَ الكُفَّارُ فَاقْتُسِمَتْ

حُمُولُ حامِلِهِمْ لِلْحَيْنِ سُمَّانا

The elucidator of this opening sets difference renowned

Doves have flown alarming from the transgressing Maghribis

عَلى الأَقاصِي مُغِيراً عَمَّ مَصْرَعُهُ

هَلا علَى الحرَمِ الأَدْنَيْنَ غَيْرانا

To Egypt and Baghdad tidings spread have been found

How much you strove that they set right but they refused

هَذِي بَنَاتُ أَبِيهِ فِي ظَعائِنِهِ

يُبْدِينَ لِلسَّبي إجْهاشاً وإِذْعَانا

And disobeyed you flagrantly defiance renowned

Profit through them in trade not undertaken

وَذاكَ ما أُودِعَتْ غَصْباً خَزَائِنُهُ

يَحُوزُهُ وارِث الدَّولاتِ قُنْيَانا

With what aroused calamity loss profound

O Caliph of God, support the religion with blood

إنَّ الإمَامَ ابْنَ فَاروقِ الهُدى عُمَرٍ

أولى بِمُصْحَفِ ذِي النُّورَيْنِ عُثْمانا

As long as the horizons rose suns and comets crowned

Turn to the returning group with kindliness

يَا قَاصِلاً فَاصِلاً بِالْحَقِّ لا رِيباً

أبْقَيْتَ فيها وَلا رَيبْاً لِمَنْ دَانا

Safely with rightness and faith again homeward bound

Pull your reins away from Marrakesh in confidence

ورُبَّمَا أُشْبِهَ الأَمْرانِ عِنْدَهُمُ

فَلاحَ وَضَّاحُ هَذَا الفَتْحِ فُرْقانا

Of success therein to Egypt and Baghdad turn around

Not for nought the family of Job and the relics tell

طارَتْ حَماماً بِهِ الرُّكْبانُ ناعِيَةً

مِنَ المَغَارِبَةِ البَاغِينَ غِرْبانا

Of Jacob's lineage their might and means are found

Theirs is precedence in their might though you have plucked them

وَكَمْ حَرَصْتَ بِهِمْ أنْ يُصْلِحوا فَأَبَوْا

وَأنْ يُطِيعُوا فَلَجُّوا فيكَ عِصْيانا

Slaying and deposing them their thrones to the ground

With force and strategy forever the enemies

أرْبِحْ بِهِمْ صَفْقَةً لَم يَعْدُ مُؤْثِرُها

بِمَا اسْتَثَارَ مِنَ الهَيْجَاءِ خُسْرَانا

Are compelled to annihilate them rabble, outcasts found

God suffices you, not the fleet Persian steeds

خَلِيفَةَ اللَّهِ دُمْ للدِّين تَنْصُرُهُ

ما أطْلَعَ الأُفْقُ أَقْماراً وَشُهْبانا

Swooping with the winds, nor the gallant riders renowned

You have become, wronging the nights, not demanding

واعْطِفْ عَلى فِئَةٍ فاءَتْ مُؤَبِّلَةً

أَمْناً بِما رَجَعَتْ رُشْداً وَإِيمانا

Erasing their harm with justice and favour bound

You walked the path of truth amongst us, ways not

وَاصْرِفْ عِنانَكَ عَن مَرَّاكش ثِقَةً

بِالنُّجْحِ فيها إِلى مِصْرٍ وبَغْدانا

Counted by any enemy who power has found

My knowledge of the House of Abu Hafs informs me

ما آلُ أيُّوبَ والآثارُ ناطِقَةٌ

مِنْ آلِ يَعْقوبَ إقْدَاماً وَإِمْكانا

In praise of the House of Ibn Hussein high renown

Sincerity of my love for them, not unhappiness to silence it

لهَؤُلاءِ عَلَيْهِم فَضْلُ بَأسِهِمُ

وَقَد قَرَضْتَهُمْ قَتْلاً وخِلْعانا

Among them, even if estrangement followed estrangement found

Perhaps intercession of the heir apparent will grant me

بالأَيْدِ والكَيْدِ تَضْطَرُّ العِدى أَبَداً

إلَى إبادَتِهِمْ سُحْماً وغُزَّانا

To regain from favour what separates, makes distant, renowned

They are the nucleus of honour whose number

واللَّهُ حَسْبُكَ لا الأَفْرَاسُ عادِيَةً

بالرِّيحِ ضَبْحاً ولا الفُرْسَانُ شُجْعانا

Has surpassed the seduced, enchantments abound

He is the blessed among them, auspiciousness and gleam

وَصرْتَ جَوْرَ الليالِي غَيْرَ مُتَّئِدٍ

تَمْحُو إساءَتَهَا عَدْلاً وإِحْسَانا

And conduct towards subjects most gentle hands unbound

I have well-wishing messengers of my words for them

وَسرْتَ بالحَقِّ فِينا سالِكاً سنَناً

لَم يَعْدُهُ مِنْ عَدِيّ منْ تَوَلانا

Whom no censure of the path nor travellers surround

A prayer You see though not the pride of artifice

عِلْمِي بِآلِ أبِي حَفْصٍ يُعَلِّمُنِي

مَدائِحَ ابْن حُسَيْنٍ آلِ حَمْدَانا

As the bouquet its perfumer Al-Busiti compounds

Poetry refuses me but adornment I confer on it

وَصِدْقُ حُبِّيَ لا سُلْوانَ يُكْذِبُهُ

فِيهِمْ وَإِنْ أَتْبَعَ الهِجْرانُ هِجْرَانا

Ninety verses I read in reading

When need for generosity knocked upon my threshold found

عَسَى وعَلَّ وَلِيَّ العَهْدِ يَشْفَعُ لِي

فَأَسْتَعِيدَ مِن التَّقْريبِ ما بَانا

I swore I would declaim them, not create while I remain

If oath-breaking does not sully them, treachery renowned

هُمْ دَوْحَةُ الشَّرَفِ العِدِّ التِي جَعَلَت

تَطُولُ عَن طُولِهَا المُفْتَنِّ أَفْنَانا

I will not be pleased in composition praising

Rather I seek intensity and exertion compound

وَهْوَ المُبَارَكُ مِنْهُمُ غُرَّةً وَسَنىً

وَسِيرَةً فِي رعايَاهُ وآسَانا

If I am munificent, their good fortune never ceased

To bestow, guide to enlightenment, wisdom to expound

لَهُمْ أواصِلُ بالتَّعْبيرِ مِن كَلِمِي

ما لا يُقَاطِعُ أَسْمَاراً وَرُكْبانا

If I fall short no blame belongs to one who strives

The steed stumbles when the course is stretched long on the ground

بِدْعاً يَراها وَلا فَخْرَ البَدِيع كَما

يَرودُ مُهْرَقَها البُسْتِيُّ بُسْتَانا

Congratulations, congratulations O King of Kings for it

Opening of openings, and glad tidings to be found

أَبَى لِيَ الشِّعْرُ إِلا ما أُنَمِّقُهُ

فَهاكَ في آب مِنها زَهْرَ نِيسَانا

By God, the discerning in insight are in doubt

Of its title page being the Book of Success crowned

تِسعونَ بَيْتاً قِراها في قِرَاءَتِها

لَمَّا أَلَمَّتْ بِبَابِ الجُودِ ضِيفَانا

Joy has adorned its dedication appearing

Brilliant, dazzling minds and thoughts abound

أقْسَمْتُ أُنْشِدُها ما ظِلْتُ أُنْشِئُها

إِن لَم يُحَنِّثْن فيها الحِنْثُ أيْمَانا

Fate chose it, glad tidings in its secrets

Donning the garb of bliss, adorned and renowned

لا أرْتَضِي القَصْدَ في التَّقْصيدِ مُمْتَدِحاً

بَلْ أقْتَضِي القَصَّ إسْرَافاً وَإِمْعَانا

Your Master, supporter of a Sultan who protected you

While you are our supporter in truth and loyalty bound

فَإِنْ أُجَوِّدْ فَمَا زَالَتْ سَعَادَتُهُم

تَهْدِي وَتُهْدِي إِلى ذِي العِيِّ تِبْيانَا

وَإنْ أُقَصِّرْ فَلا ذَنْبٌ لِمُجْتَهدٍ

يَكْبُو الجَوَادُ إِذا مَا طَالَ مَيْدَانا

بُشْرَاكَ بُشْرَاكَ يا مَلْكَ المُلُوكِ بِهِ

فَتْح الفُتُوحِ وَبُشرَانَا وبُشْرَانَا

تاللَّهِ يَرْتَابُ أرْبَابُ البَصَائِرِ فِي

سُفُورِهِ لكتَابِ النُّجْحِ عُنْوانَا

تَأَنَّقَ السَّعْدُ في إِهْدائِهِ فَبَدَتْ

حُلاهُ تبْهرُ أَلْبَاباً وأَذهانَا

واخْتَارَهُ الدَّهْرُ بِشْراً في أسِرَّتِهِ

فَاخْتَالَ في حُلَلِ السَّرّاءِ مُزْدَانا

مَوْلاكَ ناصِرُ سُلْطَانٍ حَمَاكَ بِهِ

وَأَنْتَ نَاصِرُنا حَقّاً وَمَوْلانا
