1. بِنَفْسِي مُثلِجَاتٍ لِلصدُورِ

    لَهَا سِمَتانِ مِنْ نارٍ وَنُورِ

    With my soul, I chill hearts,

    Bearing two signs: fire and light.

  2. حَوامِلُ وَهْيَ أَبْكَارٌ عَذَارَى

    تُزَفُّ عَلَى الأَكُفِّ مَعَ البُكُورِ

    Maidens still chaste, yet ripe,

    Borne in palms at first light.

  3. بَياضُ الطَّلحِ ما تَنْشَقُّ عَنْهُ

    وَفَوْقَ أَدِيمِها صَهَبُ الخُمُورِ

    Whiter than sapless palm-bark,

    Above their hands, old wine glows.

  4. كَبَرْدِ الطَّلِّ حِينَ تُذَاقُ طَعماً

    وَفِي أَحْشَائِها وَهَجُ الحَرورِ

    Cool as melting hail they taste,

    Though in their breasts hot longing grows.

  5. لَها حالان بَيْنَ فَمٍ وَكَفٍّ

    إِذَا وَافَتكَ رائِقَةَ السُّفُورِ

    Poised between lip and palm

    When you meet them at dusk,

  6. فَتَغْرُبُ كَالأَهِلَّةِ فِي لَهَاةٍ

    وتَطْلعُ في يَمينٍ كالبُدورِ

    They fade like stars at dawn

    And rise like full moons.
