الحمد للّهِ لا أهْلٌ وَلا وَلَدُ

وَلا قَرَارٌ ولا صَبْرٌ ولا جَلَدُ

Praise be to God, I have no family or children,

No home, nor patience, nor endurance.

كانَ الزَّمانُ لَنَا سِلْماً إلى أمَدٍ

فَعَادَ حَرْباً لَنَا لمّا انْقَضَى الأمَدُ

Time was once peace for us for a period,

Then turned to war when the period ended.
