1. لم توف أشواقي ولا لوعاتي

    حق الهوى لكم ولا عبراتي

    My longing and anguish did not die,

    The right of love is for you, not my tears,

  2. مع أن أيسر ما عدمت بلوعتى

    روحي وأهون ما وجدت مماتى

    Although the easiest thing I lost was my torment,

    My soul and the least I found was my death,

  3. يا من يعز وصالهم أن يشترى

    بنفائس الاموال والمهجات

    O you who deem their company worth,

    The precious wealth and lives to buy,

  4. جهد الصبابة في هواكم سلوة

    ونهاية البلوى من اللذات

    The effort of youth in your love is comfort,

    And the ultimate torment is that of pleasure,

  5. وفوات جسم الصب آفات الضنى

    في حبكم من أعظم الآفات

    And missing the body of youth are the sins of neglect,

    In your love from the greatest afflictions,

  6. فسقام جسمي في هواكم صحتى ال

    كبرى وموتي فيه عين حياتي

    So my body’s illness in your love is my greatest health,

    And my death in it is the essence of my life,

  7. ومعاهد فيها عهدت الى الهوى

    وعرفت حبكم بها عرفاتى

    And I made a covenant therein to passion,

    And I knew your love through it as my rituals,

  8. فاداء نسكى فى الوقوف بها وقد

    كانت لاحرامى بها ميقاتى

    So my pilgrimage was in standing therein, and it

    Had been for my sanctity through it my appointed time,

  9. كم لي بها من وقفة مع أهلها

    كرمت وكم للدهر من غفلات

    How many a standing I have wherein with its people,

    I was honored and how many times was fate inattentive,

  10. فعلى معالمها السلام وجادها

    سحّا على الاجراع والهضبات

    So peace be upon its landmarks and its plains,

    Pouring on the rugged and the flat lands,

  11. غيث يحول الروض فى أرجائها

    حللا على عرصاتها عطرات

    A rain turning the meadow in its expanse,

    Garments on its yards, fragrances,

  12. ويقيم اعراس الربيع بها واو

    قات الهنا ومواسم اللذات

    And holding the weddings of spring therein, and the

    Appointments of bliss and seasons of pleasures,

  13. فالارض آخذة زخارف نبتها

    والطير منشدة على العذبات

    The land is taking on the adornments of its vegetation,

    And the birds singing on the fresh waters,

  14. من كل مطربة بمعرب لحنها

    طربا يميل معاطف البانات

    Every singer in the idiom of her song,

    Stirring the cloaks of the maidens,

  15. وكأنها لما تألف سجعها

    متشاجرات فى ذرى الشجرات

    And it is as if when accustomed to its rhyme,

    Disputing in the progeny of the trees,

  16. لو أن دمعى فى الغوير يكون فى

    تلك الديار وغنيت عن دعواتى

    If my tears were in Al-Ghawair, it would be

    In those lands, and I would be without my prayers,

  17. دمع على سفح الغوير سفحته

    شوقا إلى زمن بذى الأثلاث

    Tears on the slopes of Al-Ghawair I poured,

    Yearning for the days of Thul-Athlath,

  18. أيام ما ريع الوصال بجفوة

    فيها ولا شمل اللقا بشتات

    Days when the pleasure of companionship was aloof therein,

    And the union of meeting was scattered,

  19. وديار منعرج الثنية ما خلت

    منهم ولا امتلأت من الحسرات

    And the houses of Man'ar Al-Thaniya were not devoid,

    Of them, nor filled with sorrows,

  20. والانس روح في الديار وأهلها

    فقد انقضىفالكل كالأموات

    And company was the spirit in the homes and its people,

    So it is gone; all are like the dead,

  21. ذاك الزمان هو الذى أصبو له

    وكذا ديار الخيف هن اللاتي

    That is the time I aspired for,

    And so are the abodes of Al-Khayf, those

  22. حيا مغانيها الحيا من أربع

    محبوبة الآصال والغدوات

    Whose melodies were brought to life four,

    The beloved of intimacies and visits,

  23. وأعاد أياما بها ولياليا

    بيضا سمرناهن بالسُمرات

    And it restored days therein and nights,

    We darkened them with chats,

  24. ورعى الإله على المصلى جيرة

    ما زلت أرعاهم على العلات

    And God protected on the prayer-house a neighbor,

    Whom I continued to protect on the platforms,

  25. قوم على الجمرات من وادى منى

    نزلوا ومن قلبى على الجمرات

    A people at the stonings from Mina's valley,

    Descended, and from my heart to the stonings,

  26. نصبوا على ماء النقا أبياتهم

    وهم معانى الحسن فى الأبيات

    They set upon the Naga Well their verses,

    And they are the essence of beauty in verses,

  27. وتحجبوا عنا بنور جمالهم

    كتحجّب المصباح بالمشكاة

    And the veiled from us the light of their beauty,

    As a lantern is veiled with a lampshade,

  28. لم يبق عزّهم لذلى مطمعا

    فيهم وليس لغيرهم حاجاتى

    Their glory did not remain for the humble hopes in them,

    And I have no needs except for them,

  29. واما وموقفنا على كثب النقا

    بكم اللقاء وأول الزورات

    But our standing on the foothills of Naga,

    How abundant were the greetings and first visits!

  30. متواصلين هناك ألطف وصلة

    متجاورين بألسن اللحظات

    Joined therein in the sweetest companionship,

    Neighbors in the tongues of glances,

  31. والحسنب يدعو كل قلب فارغ

    فيجيب ما فيه من الذرّات

    And beauty inviting every empty heart,

    Responding what little it contains of atoms,

  32. أرجو زماني أن يواتيني ولا

    أرجو التسلّى أن يكون مُواتي

    I hope my time will bring me to me but I do not

    Hope for solace that it will favor me,

  33. ان الزمان ولا أطيل معاندى

    فى حل راحاتى وأمنياتى

    Time, though long, remains hostile to me,

    In fulfilling my comfort and wishes,

  34. لكن كثير ذنوبه مغفورة

    عندي لواحدة من الحسنات

    But plenty of its sins are forgiven me,

    For one of its virtues,

  35. ببقاء والدي التقى العالم ال

    بر الوفي العارف القنات

    Remaining is my righteous, knowing, devout father,

    The king of nobility, unique of his time,

  36. ملك الكرام وحيد أهل زمانه

    شيخ المشايخ سيّد السادات

    Sheikh of sheikhs, chief of chiefs,

    Of ambitiousness that the eulogizer dislikes in this statement,

  37. ذو همة شرفت فيسخط قوله

    المداح هذا من ذوى الهمات

    Detached, vigilant, he rejoices not in what,

    Befalls him nor sorrows for what is missed,

  38. متنزه يقظ فلا فرح بما

    يأتى اعتراه ولا أسى لفوات

    And his opinions are assisted; the people of prohibition fail,

    To obscure them, and the helper of disputes,

  39. ومسدد الآراء يعجز غمضها

    أهل النهى ومسدد الخلات

    And the clarifier of problems with knowledge he gained,

    Through his determination, knowledge and intrinsic self,

  40. ومبينللمشكلات بعلم اك

    تسبته همته وعلم ذاتي

    And he sees the consequences at the beginnings of his affairs,

    With the light of intuitive ideas,

  41. ويرى العواقب فى ابتداء أموره

    بضياء أفكار بديهات

    And if you consider his conditions carefully, you find them,

    Thoughts of intuitive knowledge,

  42. واذا اعتبرت محققا أحواله

    الفيتهن افكار بديهيات

    Humility raised the worth of his high rank,

    Above the flaw of attribution to ranks,

  43. رفع التواضع قدر رفعة شأنه

    عن نقص نسبته الى الدرجات

    In all that comes and goes a worshipper,

    Of God and deeds with intentions,

  44. فى كل ما يأتي ويترك عابد

    لله والاعمال بالنيات

    Wearing worldly life with a knowing heart,

    Avoiding ambiguities through knowledge,

  45. قد لابس الدنيا بقلب عارف

    متجنب بالعلم للشبهات

    Publicly he gives little but he secretly,

    Increases it with blessings,

  46. في الجهر يعطى ما يقل وانه

    فى السر يكثر منه بالبركات

    He loves the asking of delegations out of love for giving,

    So their asking is among the greatest acts of worship,

  47. يهوى سؤال الوفد حبا للعطا

    فسؤالهم من أعظم القربات

    And he dislikes our avoidance of thanking him,

    It is as if we disobey him with obedience,

  48. ويسوؤه منا تعاطى شكره

    فكأننا نعصيه بالطاعات

    And all the good I have is from,

    His blessings, let alone blessings,

  49. وجميع ما أنا فيه من خير فمن

    بركاته ناهيك من بركات

    So I made thanking Him along with thanking,

    My Lord for me obligatory in decisive verses,

  50. فلذاك اوجب شكره مع شكره

    ربى عليّ بمحكم الآيات

    My Master, you sufficed me the affairs of life,

    And clothed me my religion and good traits,

  51. مولاى أنت كفيتنى أمر الدنا

    وكسوتنى دينى وحسن صفاتى

    And I tied to you hope for the relief of,

    A matter of my imminent Hereafter,

  52. ولقد عقدت بك الرجاء لمعضل

    من امر آخرتى قريب آتي

    That the generous are scattered among the people,

    While you gather these divergences,

  53. ان المكارم فى الأنام تشتت

    ولأنت جامع هذه الأشنات

    Take it to you, a poem I shortened,

    Due to their slumber from frequent drowsiness,

  54. خذها اليك قصيدة قد قصّرت

    بمنامهمن كثرة التاآت

    The effort of the incapable is upon you a right and duty,

    So forgive for you cover defects.

  55. جهد المقل عليك حق واجب

    فاستر فانك ساتر العورات
