1. حوشيت در مدامع لا تجمد

    وكفيت حر أضالع لا تخمد

    My tears do not freeze as they flow

    Nor does the fire in my ribs fade

  2. وعداك داء الحب وهو كما ترى

    جسم يذوب ومقلة تتسهد

    Except for the sickness of love that, as you see

    Is a body that melts and blinking eyes that cry themselves to sleep

  3. أمعللى منه بوعد وصاله

    هل كان ذا روح فمات الموعد

    Should I plead with it with the promise of union?

    Did it once have a soul that died from broken promises?

  4. حتام نستسقي سحائب أجهمت

    منه فتبرق خلباً أو ترعد

    Shall we beg rain clouds that thundered

    Hoping lightning will flash or thunder will roar?

  5. وإلام نتجع المنى وضروءها

    لا تمتري وصريخها لا ينج

    Why do we hope for wishes when their screams

    Cannot be heard and their cries do not avail

  6. تعست جدود أولى الهوى أمن المها

    يرجي الوفاء وذاك مالا يوجد

    Ruined were the first generations that fell in love

    Hoping for loyalty - something that cannot be found

  7. ومن البلية أن ثقلبي راغب

    فيمن يكلفه الهوان ويزهد

    The misery is that my heart still desires

    One who finds disgrace agreeable and abstinence sweet

  8. وإذا سطوت أسرت آساد الشرى

    قسراً ويأسرني الغزال الأغيد

    And when the kings of evil have conquered

    By force - the does enslave me, the unweaned gazelle

  9. حالاً يسر الدهر سوء حلولها

    مني ويكرهها الكريم محمد

    Now the days have turned against me and my love

    The generous Muhammad finds her hateful

  10. الأروع الورع الهمام الأفضل

    الندب الأجل الاريحي الأمجد

    The most pious, the protector, the best

    The excellent, the virtuous, the glorious, the blessed

  11. الكامل السيفي من علياؤه

    لا ترتقي وطباقها لا تصعد

    The perfect, the sword of his people

    None can rise to his level or ascend to his rank

  12. ان كان اوحد كل دهر كائن

    في دهر فضلا فهذا الأوحد

    If there was ever a unique one in any age

    Then this is the unique one in the age of excellence

  13. ينمو بأنمله اليراع ويرتوى

    من راحيته ذابل ومهند

    The grass grows from his footsteps and the thirsty are quenched

    By his winds, the withered revive and the bent stand tall

  14. ويقل منه الطرف ليثاً في الوغى

    من كل منبت شعرة فيه يد

    Eyes weary of him, though in battle

    Every hair on him is a lion in the fray

  15. ابداً تفل الجمع بأسا أو ندى

    مع انه في كل جمع مفرد

    Crowds will never be tired or bored in his presence

    Though he is the only one in every group

  16. لم يختلف اثنان من هذا الورى

    في فضله شهدوه أو لم يشهدوا

    No two in this world differ

    In his merit - whether they witness it or not

  17. ومع التحقق لا شكوك لعاقل

    عبد الآله ولن يرى ما يعبد

    With certainty the reasonable have no doubt

    God's servant - none shall see what he worships

  18. يا بن الأكارم كابراً عن كابر

    والدهر مقتبل الشبيبة أمرد

    O son of the generous, defying the defiant

    While time itself grovels youthfully at his feet

  19. وأولي المكارم في الأنام وعنهم

    تروى الفواضل والفضائل تسند

    The generous of mankind and after them

    Virtues and merits are narrated and supported

  20. والذاهبين من البرية والعلا

    علم على آثارهم والسؤدد

    Those who left the world with knowledge and ascended to highness

    Their traces and milestones are known

  21. ان غالني بالبعد دهري عنك

    فالأيام تدنى من تشاء وتبعد

    If the days have distanced me from you

    Days will come closer to whoever you wish or distance

  22. وأنا المقيم بما يراد على النوى

    تدنو العهود وان تنآى المعهد

    I remain true to my intention to draw near

    Though the appointed time may be far

  23. ابداً أخصك بالمدايح مخلصاً

    ومن الخليفة من يذم ويحمد

    I will forever praise you sincerely

    While the Caliph is blamed and praised

  24. ولقد رميت من الزمان بحادث

    قد عز لي الاك فيه المسعد

    I have been stricken by time with an affliction

    In which only you give me good fortune

  25. ما ابيض يومي من عدو أزرق

    الأوصال علي عيش أسود

    No day of mine was brightened

    By a blue-limbed enemy or black life

  26. متوطن منه الحضيض وربما

    صحب الدنى به السهى والفرقد

    Settled in misery, sometimes keeping company

    With outcasts, barefoot and shivering

  27. متقمص صبر الكرام على الأذي

    متعمم بفضيلة لا تجحد

    Cloaked in the patience of nobles against harm

    Veiled in a virtue that cannot be denied

  28. ولئن خفيت علي غبي رونقا

    والشمس لم يشهد سناها الارمد

    If I lack the radiance known to the foolish

    And the blind have not witnessed its brilliance

  29. لا عار في بؤسي ولا فخراً لمن

    يعلو بنقص أو يجهل بجهد

    There is no shame in my misery, no pride for those

    Who rise by fault or are ignorant in their effort

  30. فلطالما طار الذباب مع الهوى

    ورقا وقد سكن التراب العسجد

    For long has the fly flown aimlessly in passion

    While the humble beetle rests in the dust

  31. وإليكها ورقاء في ورق الثنا

    تشدو بحمدك دهرها وتغرد

    To you belongs the delicate nightingale

    Singing your praises for eternity in the branches

  32. سكنت به غرف الجبان وفارقت

    منى جناناً ناره تتوقد

    I made my dwelling with cowards

    And left gardens where fires blaze

  33. وتخلصت من فكرة لهمومها

    لان الحديد ورق منها الجلمد

    Freeing myself of worries and grief

    For steel is softer than frozen tears

  34. وتنزهت عمن سواك بحمدها

    ما حاجة الظمآن إلا المورد

    And I refused all but you in my praise

    What need has a thirsty man but a well?

  35. فاستبقها منى صحيفة مدحةٍ

    تطوى وتنشر في الزمان وتنشد

    So receive from me a scroll of praise

    That will be folded and spread through time and sung

  36. واسلم ودم انسان ناظر دهرنا

    دهراً ومدحك موقه والأثمد

    And I salute and bid farewell, a human observing our age

    An age where praising you is guided and leaned on

  37. فلنحن ملجانا إليك من الورى

    فيه وأنت مؤيد ومؤبد

    We are sailors bound to you over all people

    With you as the aided and eternal
