أأبحت يا هذي دم المهجور

والمستحب تجنب المحظور

I have wept, o you who shed the blood of the abandoned one

فغدوت تغري الطرف فيا هراقه

اغراء قلبي في هوى المغرور

So you have come to tempt the glance, o you who pours it

Tempting my heart with the love of the deceiver

هلا اعتمدت افاقتي من سحره

فالأجر ارقى في رُقي المسحور

Why didn't you rely on my consciousness from its sorcery

For the reward is loftier in curing the spellbound

وجهدت في طلب الوفاء وانه

قرب المزار ولو بوعد زور

And I struggled in seeking loyalty, but it

Is near the tomb, even if with a false promise

فلقد حملت كثير هجرك مشفقا

وقليل وصلك ذاهب بكثير

For indeed, I have endured much of your separation anxiously

And little of your company disappears with much

وضللت سلواني عليك وضل من

يهواك بالتبديل والتغيير

And I have misled my entertainment about you and he who

Loves you has gone astray with change and alteration

يكفيك من حالي حلاه وربما

اغنت اشارات عن التقرير

It suffices you from my state its splendor and maybe

Gestures have sung praise without prose

لا اشتكيك وام دفر اشتكى

لمجيب داعي نصرتي ومجيري

I do not complain about you but Umm Dufra complains

To a respondent, my supporter and my neighbor

مولى موالي عصره بل دهره

فخر الأئمة مرجع الجمهور

My Master, master of my masters, pride of his time even era

Refuge of the public, reference of the crowds

مولى يروق بيانه وبنانه

المطرف في التحرير والتحبير

My Master, his rhetoric and his construction pleases

Skillful in writing and explanation

كشاف اغماض المعاني جامع

الأرشاد مغنى فقر كل فقير

Revealer of the unseen meanings, gatherer

Of guidance, eraser of poverty of every poor

حاوي الهدى مصباح انوار التقي

كنز الفضائل معدن التطهير

Container of guidance, lamp of the pious’ lights

Treasure of virtues, mine of purification

مفتي الورى علما وحلما باذخا

اربي على رضوى حجى وثبير

Jurisprudent of the people in knowledge and wisdom shining

Tutor over bliss, protector and alert one

أنهيك يا علم العلوم ألوكة

صدرت والا نفثة المصدور

I will not cease, o you flag of sciences

Have you rebelled or is it an outpouring outpourer

إنا لفي زمن بنوه أساود

بأساور وقساور بقصور

We are in a time whose youth are like lions

With bracelets and anklets in palaces

واليتهم فخبرت غدر طباعهم

زمناً ولا ينبيك مثل خبير

And I have experienced the betrayal of their nature

For a long time and an expert like you would not be warned

حرب لسلمك فاعتبر في نصرهم

عقبى الخراساني والمنصور

War for your peace so consider victory in their aid

Like al-Khurasani and al-Mansur

رفعتهم الأيام بعد اضافة

والرفع ليس يجوز بالمجرور

The days raised them after annexation

And raising is not allowed with the dragged

والمبتدا في الأصل كان مقدما

ولربما خصته بالتأخير

And the subject in origin was put forward

And maybe I specialized it with delay

نحوية لكنها لضرورة

حكمت بمد الهمز للمقصور

Grammar but necessary

To rule lengthening the hamza for the curtailed

لا تحلن الأقدار في اعرابها

قد ترفع الأسماء بالتقدير

Do not make fate vulgar in its expression

Names may be raised by presumption

مكسورة قد حاولت اكسيرها

من جابر والجبر للمكسور

Broken, I have tried to mend it

With a caster and compulsion for the broken

حكم مضت افعالها من قبل ان

تلقى جوازمها على المأمور

A rule whose actions have passed before

Receiving its tools upon the commanded

والدهر بالتمييز ينصب ناقصاً

ويجيز خفض الكامل الموفور

And time makes the imperfect accusative by distinction

And permits lowering the abundant nominative

ليغره بمتاع عيش باطل

وحياة دنيانا متاع غرور

To lure him with the wares of a void living

And the life of our ephemeral world is wares of deceit

وإذا البصائر لم ينر نبراسها

اخطا الصواب بهن كل بصير

And if sights are not illuminated by its lantern

The perceptive misses the right path through them

انفاسها ودموعها لم يبرحا

بالدمس في التصعيد والتقطير

Its breaths and tears did not cease

In evaporation and distillation

قد دبرت اجزاءها ولتركها

التدبير عندك غاية التدبير

I have arranged its parts but left it

Management with you is the peak of management

هي دون قدرك في النظام ولو

جرت منها دموع كثير وجرير

It is under your decree so even if

Many tears of Jarir and others streamed from it

فاصرف مهب قبولها بقبولها

وارسل على حسادها بدبور

So turn away the gust of accepting it with accepting it

And send upon its enviers pestilence

يتطاولون لطولها ولطولها

ان التطاول عغاية التقصير

They vilify it for its length but for its length

Vilification is the peak of belittlement

يبست بها افواههم وطباعهم

واليبس طبعا في فم المقرور

Their mouths and natures dry up through it

And dryness is innate in the mouth of the spited

والفخر يصحني بذك لكونهم

حساد كل مهذب تحرير

And pride makes me decline with your mention, because they are

Enviers of every well-composed composer

فاسلم وجم تمصى أمورك في الورى

كمضاء مشهود الشبا مشهور

So be safe and beautiful, your matters will be well in the world

Like the splendor of a witnessed well-known light

فالمرء منيرجى ويخشى أمره

وتراه في الحالين بالمشكور

For man hopes for and fears his matter

And you see him in both states as thanked
