1. هذي ربى الأثلات من يبرين

    والقاتلات لنا عيون العين

    This is my beloved among the gazelles of meadows

    And the killers of us are the eyes of the eye

  2. فاذهب بلبك إن أسباب الهوى

    فتن العقول وعقلة المفتون

    So take your mind away, the causes of love

    Seduce minds and the mind of the infatuated

  3. واغضض جفونك طالما بعث الأسى

    للقلب لمحة ناظر وجفون

    And lower your eyelids as long as sorrow sends

    To the heart a glance of an onlooker and eyelids

  4. واجعل سراك إذا سلمت إلى الحمى

    مسرى الخيال لمقلة المحزون

    And make your secret, when you are resigned to passion

    The passage of imagination to the frown of the grieved

  5. وبه معاجك كالظنون توهما

    كمكارم هجت بقلب ضنين

    And with it your tribulations are like conjectures

    Like generosities that have touched a resentful heart

  6. فالشك إلا في الأحبة فاسد

    وبه يقبني لا يكاد يقيني

    For doubt except in loved ones is corrupt

    And with it he doubts me, he can hardly reassure me

  7. وأنا الملوم إذا أصبت ملامة

    من مغرم ما لم تكن في الدين

    And I am blamed when I get blamed

    By a lover unless it was in religion

  8. فلكم أهان الحب قبلك عاشقا

    والحب غاية عزه في الهون

    So how much has love humiliated a lover before you

    And love is the height of his glory in humiliation

  9. مإذا أفادك جار جيران اللوى

    والنازلين على حمى جيرون

    When a neighbor of the neighbors of passion benefits you

    And those who descend into the fever of neighbors

  10. غير انهمال الدمع منك ولن ترى

    الماء المعين على الهوى بمعين

    Except the pouring of tears from you, and you will not see

    The known water to passion with a spring

  11. وتصعد الأنفاس ليس بمسعد

    يأس المحب وصفقة المغبون

    And the sighs rise, it is not with a fortunate

    Despair of the lover and the deal of the cheated

  12. تاللَه ما أمضى الصوارم والقنا

    إلا بدور أشرقت بغصون

    By God, the swords and spears did not go

    Except with homes that shone with branches

  13. أدهى لنا من سحر بابل أعيا

    ومباسماً من ابنة الزرجون

    More harmful to us than the magic of Babylon

    And smiles from the daughter of Zarjun

  14. ولقد سمعت ولا أخالك سامعاً

    بكثير والواله المجنون

    And indeed I have heard, and I don’t think you have heard

    Much, and the passions of the crazy

  15. ومتى رغبت لمحنتي بمحبتي

    وتلهفي وتأسفي وحنيني

    And when you wanted my affliction with my love

    And my craving, my regret and my yearning

  16. وتلفتي بالأبرقين لبارق

    ما عن لي إلا لفيض عيون

    And your glancing with the twinkling of lightening

    Nothing indicated to me except the outpouring of eyes

  17. مصائب الأيام عني جانباً

    عندي من الأيام ما يكفيني

    The calamities of days turn away from me

    I have enough days for me

  18. بي لوعة ومن الحوادث روعة

    لا شي اقتل فيك من دائين

    In me there is agony, and from incidents there is horror

    Nothing kills in you from my two pains

  19. والدهر ما سالمت غير محارب

    منه ولا استأمنت غير خؤون

    And time, I did not greet it except as an adversary

    And did not feel safe with it except worries

  20. ولشذان تصفو معيشة إمر

    جبلت جبلة خلقه من طين

    And for perfection to purify the life of a matter

    Whose nature was created from clay

  21. ان لم تكن ذا النون فالأيام من

    ظلم عليك وظلمة كالنون

    If you are not the essence of bliss, then days are

    Unjust to you and darkness like the essence

  22. فعسى تعسعس ليلها ان تنجلي

    بضياء غرة وجه نجم الدين

    Maybe its gloomy night will clear

    With the illumination of a radiant face, the star of religion

  23. فلك الفضائل قطب دائرة لعلا

    شمس الهداية بدر كل يقين

    For you are the virtues, the axis of a sphere of glory

    The sun of guidance, the full moon of all certainty

  24. حبر تدفق بحر علم كلامه

    ونظامه باللؤلؤ المكنون

    An ocean of knowledge pouring, his speech overflows

    And his system with hidden pearls

  25. ما در غير ثمين در لفظه

    فينا وبعض الدر غير ثمين

    Nothing but gems are the words of his utterance

    Among us, and some gems are not gems

  26. خدن العفاف قرين خير دائم

    وأرى قرين الخير خير قربن

    The cheek of chastity, friend of lasting goodness

    And I see the friend of goodness a good friend

  27. فتحت أنامله لجمع عفاته

    فتحاً بلا ضم ولا تسكين

    His fingers opened to collect his chastities

    An opening without constriction or pronunciation

  28. فكأنها الجمع المذكر راحة

    ما أعربت إلا بفتح النون

    So it is like the masculine collective, a palm

    That is not inflected except with the fathah of the noon

  29. وكذا مكارم كفه لم تنصرف

    لضرورة عن سائل مسكين

    And so are the generosities of his palm, they did not divert

    For prosodic necessity from a beggar in need

  30. والجود ما وافاك جود سحابه

    عملاً بلا حد ولا تعيين

    And generosity, its generosity of cloud did not equal you

    In action without limit or specification

  31. يا فرع اصل من بني الحلفا نما

    وجنى رياضٍ في بني البتروني

    Oh branch, origin of the descendants of Hilfah grew

    And harvest of gardens among the Bani Butrun

  32. قسماً لذو المجدين اسمك مفرد

    عندي بلا ثان كذى النورين

    I swear by the Lord of the two glories, your name singular

    To me without second like the two lights

  33. ولقد حباك اللَه افضل ما حبا

    ابراره من حور عليين

    And God has granted you the best of what He granted

    His righteous ones from heavenly houries

  34. بكريمة لم يلف قبل زفافها

    ظبي الكناس يزور ليث عرين

    With a generous lady that no roe deer courted before her wedding

    The den of a lion and visits a lion's lair

  35. من محتد فذٍ وعيص واحد

    كالسين بين حروفها والشين

    From a brilliant, singular, proud and one

    Like the seen among its letters and the sheen

  36. تتناسب الأنساب فيما بينكم

    كتناسب المفروض بالمسنون

    Lineages correspond between you

    As the correspondence of the inferred with the stated

  37. فالمجد وجه أنتما في حسنه

    للمجتلى كالطرف والعرنين

    And time is a meadow for you in its flowers

    For the crescent like the rose and narcissi

  38. والدهر روض لحتما في زهره

    للمجتنى كالورد والنسرين

    Full moon and sun drew near and matched

    And corresponded like the conjoined eyebrow

  39. بدر وشمس بالسعود تقاربا

    وتقارنا كالحاجب المقرون

    If your wedding night was not by my hand

    It is good, you are secured like al-Ma'mun

  40. إن لم تكن بوران عرسك من يدي

    حسنٍ فأنت أمنت كالمأمون

    So I profit with the auspicious deal of Ma'mun

    And am fortunate with the omen of the blessed bird

  41. فأربح بأيمن صفقة مأمونة

    وأسعد بفال الطائر الميمون

    And to you the radiant vitality

    And over your enemies like an unsheathed sword

  42. وإليكها وسناء بازغة السنا

    وعلى عداك كصارم مسنون

    Of pure white from the elite of the elite, you made

    The praise of the president with the definitive law

  43. غراء من غرر القصائر احكمت

    مدح الرئيس بمحكم القانون

    You went to the wondrous meaning, our beauties

    Beyond rhetoric and beatification

  44. ذهبت إلى المعنى البديع محاسنا

    فضلا عن التذهيب والتحسين

    And you refrained from kissing the hands of servants

    Smearing the forehead of my hot hope

  45. وتنزهت عن لثم أيدي اعبد

    لطم الرجاء بهن حر جبيني

    Knowing that people are below you in elevation

    In knowledge, and the lords of poems below me

  46. علماً بأن الناس دونك في العلا

    علما وأرباب القصائد دوني

    They are not among the poets anymore, if only

    They realized the reality of a balanced poet

  47. ليسوا من الشعراء بعد فليتهم

    شعروا حقيقة شاعر موزون

    A name without inscription for them, as if they are

    Letters and script, the letters of tanween

  48. اسم بلا رسم لهم فكأنهم

    لفظاً وخطاً احرف التنوين

    They stole rhymes and borrowed and adorned them

    So they were confused in placement and formation

  49. سرقوا القوافي واستعار واحليها

    فتحيروا في الوضع والتكوين

    And I think they discarded meanings from themselves

    Out of incapacity, and incapacity is not empowerment

  50. وأظنهم رفضوا المعاني عنهم

    عجزوا وليس العجز كالتمكين

    The meaning was not pierced with rigid thinking

    Where is the match of the virgin to an old maid?

  51. لم يثقب المعنى بفكر جامد

    أين اقتراع البكر من عنين

    And poetry is an invulnerable flank

    From the fangs of the hissing serpent and the stare of the dragon

  52. والشعر أمنع جانبا من ناجذ

    الليث الهصور وناظر التنين
