1. يظن الفراش الليل سجناً مؤبداً

    عليه وضوء الشمع من سجنه بابا

    The moth thinks the night an eternal prison

    Upon it the candle's light seems a gate

  2. فيلقي إليه نفسه كي يجيزه

    خروجاً فيلقى الحتف فيه وقد خابا

    So it casts itself to pass through

    But meets its demise and is denied escape

  3. كذاك السخيف العقل يقصي مهذبا

    ويدني إليه أهوج الرأي مرتابا

    Just so the foolish mind spurns the wise

    And inclines to the confused of thought in doubt
