ما لأَبِي اليُمْنِ عَلَيْنا يَدٌ
لكِنْ أَيادِينا جَمِيعاً عَلَيْهْ
Abu al-Yumn holds no favor over us;
rather, every favor of ours rests upon him.
لأَنَّهُ يَعْتَدُّ إِسْداءهُ الْ
جَمِيلَ إِسْداءَ جَمِيلٍ إِلَيْهْ
For he reckons his bestowal of the—
favor a favor bestowed upon himself:
كَأَنَّما نعطِيهِ مِنْ جُودِ أَيْ
دِينا الَّذِي نَأْخُذُهُ مِنْ يَدَيْهْ
as though, from the bounty of our—
hands, we gave him what we receive from his hands.
