1. أَمّا الزَّمانُ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُنْحِي

    أَبَداً عَلَيَّ بِمؤْلِمِ الْجُرْحِ

    The times have always dealt

    Unending wounds upon me.

  2. فَلَئِنْ نَوائِبُهُ سَمَحْنَ عَلَى

    ما كانَ مِنُْه بِماجِدٍ سَمْحِ

    Yet if the times were lenient

    Regarding what I wished they would be lenient about,

  3. فَلأَثْنِيَنَّ عَلَى يَدٍ فَتَحَتْ

    بابَ الرَّجاءِ إِلى أَبِي الْفَتْحِ

    I will praise the hand that opened

    The door of hope to my father of conquest.
