1. أَتُرى أَبْصَرَهُ مِثْلِي الْقَدَحْ

    فَغَدا زَنْدُ حَشاهُ يُقْتَدَحْ

    Do you see him as I see the wine cup

    So his cheek became a drinking cup to be sipped

  2. وانْثَنَى مُنْكَسِراً مِنْ وَجْدِهِ

    بِكَسِيرِ الطَّرْفِ كَالظَّبْيِ سَنَحْ

    And he bent broken from his passion

    With downcast eyes like a gazelle doe

  3. قَمَرٌ يَسْعَدُ لَوْ يُشْبِهُهُ

    قَمَرُ اللَّيْلِ إِذا اللَيْلُ جَنَحْ

    A moon who would be happy to resemble him

    The moon of the night when night falls

  4. لَبِسَ الْحُسْنَ كَشَمْسِ الدَّوْلَةٍ الْ

    مَلْكِ إِذْ يَلْبَسُ مَعْشُوقَ الْمِدَحْ

    He wore beauty like the sun of the kingdom

    The king when he wears the adorned beloved
