ألا إنَّهُ فتحٌ يُقِرُّ له الفتحُ
فأوّلُهُ سعدٌ وآخرُهُ نُجْحُ
Lo, it is a conquest that Conquest itself acknowledges.
Its outset is felicity, and its end success.
سَرى القائدُ الميمونُ خيرَ سَرِيَّةٍ
تقدَّمَها نصرٌ وتابعَها فَتْحُ
The blessed commander marched by night with the finest detachment;
triumph went before it, and conquest followed it.
ألم ترَهُ أرْدَى بإسْتجةَ العِدَى
فلاقَوا عذاباً كانَ موعدَه الصُّبحُ
Did you not see him, with six men, bring down the enemy?
Thus they met a torment whose appointed hour was dawn.
فلا عهدَ للمُرّاقِ من بعدِ هذهِ
يتمُّ لهمْ عند الإمامِ ولا صُلحُ
So after this, no covenant for the renegades
shall be honored for them before the Imam, nor any truce.
تَولَّوا عباديداً بكلِّ ثنيَّةٍ
وقد مَسَّهمْ قَرحٌ وما مسَّنا قَرْحُ
They turned and fled in scattered bands through every mountain pass;
for wounds had touched them, while no wound had touched us.
