1. يسعى بها شادنٌ أناملُهُ

    ضَرْبانِ منها العنّابُ والعنمَ

    His fingers move upon it with delight

    The fingers pluck the chords of joy and sorrow

  2. تَنسى به العينُ طرفَها عَجباً

    ويدركُ الوهمَ عنده الوهِمُ

    The eyes in wonder on its beauty dwell

    Lost in its strains, dim dreams the past recall

  3. كأنَّما لاحظتْ به صَنَماً

    يعبدُهُ مِن بهائه الصَّنمُ

    As though an idol, wrought of purest gold,

    Knelt down before, in worship of its thrall
