عجبتُ للفظٍ منكَ ذابَ نحافةً

ومعناهُ ضخمٌ ما أَردتُ سمينُ

I wonder at words from you that flowed slender

Yet their meaning is vast, I did not intend fat

وأعجبُ من هذين أن بيانَهُ

حياةٌ لأرباب الهوى ومنونُ

More wondrous than these two is their expression

Life for the passionate and pining ones

زَحمْتَ به غُنجها مُقَلَ الدُّمى

وَعلَّمتَ سُمْرَ النَّفْثِ كيف يكونُ

You crowded with it thickets, sparing blood

And taught the night talk how it comes to be
