ألا إنَّما الدنيا كأحلامِ نائمِ

وما خيرُ عيشٍ لا يكون بدائمِ

The world is but a dream of a sleeper

No life of pleasure can last forever

تأمَّلْ إذا ما نلتَ بالأمسِ لذَّةً

فأَفَنَيتَها هل أنتَ إلا كحالمِ

If yesterday brought you joy that faded

Were you not like a man who dreamed?

وما الموتُ إلا شاهدٌ مثل غائبٍ

وما الناسُ إلا جاهلٌ مثلُ عالمِ

And death is a witness who cannot be seen

Mankind are ignorant, the wisest misled
