أَلا يا وَيحَ قَلبي للشْ
شَبابِ الغَضِّ إذْ وَلَّى
Alas, my heart, for youth’s freshness, when it’s gone!
I made wild living my cloak, though sense was best.
جَعلتُ الغَيَّ سِربالي
وكان الرُّشدُ بي أَوْلى
I was unjust to myself in what I decreed,
And though injustice may pass for justice, that is not sweet.
بِنَفْسي جائرٌ في الحك
مِ يُلفَى جَورُهُ عَدلا
وليسَ الشَّهدُ في فيهِ
بأحلى عندهُ منْ لا
