1. قَولٌ كأنَّ فَرِيدَهُ

    سِحْرٌ على ذِهْنِ اللَّبيبْ

    A saying as if its uniqueness

    Is magic upon the mind of the intelligent

  2. لا يَشْمَئِزُّ على اللِّسا

    نِ وَلا يَشِذُّ عنِ القُلوبْ

    It does not repulse the tongue

    Nor stray from hearts

  3. لَم يَغْلُ في شنعِ اللُّغا

    تِ وَلا تَوَحَّشَ بالغريبْ

    It has not been coarse in the ugliness of languages

    Nor become uncivilized by the strange

  4. سَيْفٌ تَقَلَّدَ مِثْلَهُ

    عَطْفَ القضيبِ على القَضِيبْ

    A sword which has been girded with its like

    The bending of a rod upon a rod

  5. هَذا تُجَذُّ بهِ الرّقَا

    بُ و ذا تُجَذُّ به الخُطوبْ

    With this softness is attracted

    And with this harshness difficulties are attracted
