يا غُضُناً مائِساً بَينَ الرِّياطْ
ما لي بَعدَكَ بالعَيْشِ اغْتِباطْ
O withered branch amid the meadows green,
Without you I take no joy in life serene.
يا مَنْ إِذا ما بَدا لي مَاشِياً
وَدِدْتُ أَنَّ لَهُ خَدِّي بِساطْ
When you appear before me on your way,
I long to spread my cheek for you to tread.
تَتْرُكُ عَيْناهُ مَنْ أَبْصَرَهُ
مُخْتَلطَاً عَقلُهُ كُلَّ اخْتِلاطْ
Your eyes leave stunned whoever dares to look;
Bewildered wits, all reason they forsook.
قُلْتُ مَتَى نَلْتَقي يَا سَيِّدي
قالَ غَداً نَلْتَقي عِنْدَ الصِّراطْ
I asked, “When will we meet, my master dear?”
“Tomorrow we shall meet beside the Bridge,” you said.
