1. مَنْ لي إِذا جُدْتُ بَينَ الأَهْلِ والوَلَدِ

    وَكانَ مِنّي نَحْوَ الموْتِ قيد يَدِ

    When I am distressed between family and children

    And death's grip holds me tight

  2. وَالدَّمْعُ يَهْمُلُ وَالأَنْفاسُ صَاعِدَةٌ

    فَالدَّمْعُ في صَبَبٍ والنَّفْسُ في صُعُدِ

    My tears flow freely and my breath comes in gasps

    Tears in streams and breath in throes

  3. ذَاكَ الْقَضَاءُ الذي لا شَيءَ يَصْرِفُهُ

    حَتَّى يُفَرِّقَ بينَ الرُّوحِ وَالجَسَدِ

    Such is the decree that nothing can avert

    Until it severs spirit from flesh
