Torture me gently, my tortured heart,
And if torment brings you joy, then torment me.
By my life, you've distanced yourself beyond distance,
Just as I've drawn near beyond nearness.
Myself is a full moon eclipsed of its light,
A sun, that when it rises toward the sun, sets.
If Imru’ al-Qays's woman had appeared to him,
He'd not have said, “Away with you, mother of Jundub!”
