Do not cry, Layla, nor shed a tear,
Nor mourn for a departing companion.
But cry for the morning breeze when it folds its garment,
For none will spread its folds again.
Nor does the heart forget what has passed,
Nor ever leaving its anguish.
And cease the words of one who weeps over traces,
For traces are not to be wept over.
My friend turned aside at the ruins of a house,
Deserted by Sulayma and Meyya.
