يَا دهْرُ ما لِيَ أُطَّبي
وأَنْتَ غَيرُ مُواتِ
O life, why do I praise you
When you are not faithful?
جَرَّعْتَني غُصَصاً بِهَا
كدَّرْتَ صَفْوَ حَياتي
You made me drink bitterness
And troubled the serenity of my life.
أَيْنَ الَّذين تَسَابَقُوا
في المَجدِ لِلغايَاتِ
Where are those who raced
For glory and high goals?
قوْمٌ بهمْ رُوحُ الحَيا
ة تُرَدُّ في الأَمْوَاتِ
A people in whom was the spirit of life,
Who could revive the dead.
وإِذا هُمُ ذَكرُوا الإسَا
ءَةَ أَكْثَرُوا الحَسَناتِ
And when they recalled harm done,
They multiplied good deeds.
