بَاكِيَاتُ الغَمَام
ضَاحِكَاتُ الكِمَام
The weeping clouds,
The laughing veils,
وَهُبُوبُ التَّنَسُّمِ
مَع ساجِعَاتِ الحَمَام
The blowing breezes,
With the moaning doves,
بِأَبَارِيقَ رُكَّع
مُستَقبِلاَتِ الكُؤُوس
And the kneeling jugs,
Welcoming the cups,
سَاجِدَاتٍ وَتُرفَع
نَحوَ السَّمَا بالرّؤُوس
Bowing and raised
Towards the sky with heads,
وَشَيء مِن ذَاكَ أبدَع
بَدرٌ يُضِي كَالشُّمُوس
And something of that more wondrous,
A full moon shining like suns
طَالِعٌ بِالتَّمَام
يُجلي جُنحَ الظَّلاَم
Rising perfectly,
Dispelling the wings of darkness,
كالقَضِيبِ المُنَعَّم
يَهتَزّ بَينَ الأكَام
Like a well-crafted rod,
Shaking among the dunes,
وَبِفَرقِ الذوَايِب
وَصُبحِ ذَاكَ الجَبِينِ
And in the morning light,
And that dawn forehead,
وَدَبِيبِ العَقَارِب
وأفسَدَت أمرَ دِينِي
And scurrying scorpions
Have spoiled my faith.
يَا طَبِيبَ السِّقَام
يَا حَيَاةَ الأنَام
O healer of the sick,
O life of the people,
رَبّ عيسَى بنِ مَريَم
مُحيِي رُفَاةِ الرّمَام
Jesus son of Mary,
Reviver of dead bones,
لَو هَدَانِي رَشَادِي
لَقُلتُ حَسبِيَ مُوسَى
If you had guided me
I would have said Moses is enough for me!
مِنكَ صَحّ اعتِمَادِي
يَا ذَا الغَزَال الأَنُوسَا
In you lies my reliance,
O you of the beautiful gazelle.
وأنادي وأنادي
لقّان دهري عبوسا
And I call and call out,
To make my gloomy fate smile
مَا يُفِيدُ اكتَتام
وَبَلَغتُ الحِمَام
What use is darkness?
I have reached the sanctuary,
نَومُ عَينِي مُحَرّم
بِالله فاقصِر مَلاَم
The sleep of my eye forbidden,
For God's sake, shorten blame!
