1. تَنقادُ لِيَ الأَوتارُ وَهيَ عَصِيَّةٌ

    فَأُذِلُّ مِنها كُلَّ ذي اِستِكبارِ

    The strings are pliant for me though they're unruly,

    So I humble everyone possessed of pride.

  2. وَلَقَد أَزورُ مَعَ القِسيِّ أَهِلَّةً

    فَأُعيرُهُنَّ دَوائِرَ الأَوتارِ

    And I oft discourse with one who is cruel when

    I touch on the strings and turn them around.
