My heart is afflicted with love and passion's disease

And my eyes are accustomed to the wakefulness of night

So do not torture with long estrangement a broken heart

The torment of its affliction before the acts of aloofness sufficed

If you wish to torment the heart's beloved with my torment

Then my heart sees your torment as an honor

O comfort of the soul, o intimacy of hearts, o

Strength of my heart, o purity for he who knew

If I have sinned, here I am confessing

And God has already forgiven that which is past
