1. ما عابَ ساحِرَ طَرفِهِ رَمَدٌ بِهِ

    كَلّا ولا أَضحى بِذاكَ كَليلا

    Inflammation in his eye has not marred the magic of his gaze;

    No—nor has it thereby become dull.

  2. لا تَأمَنَن فَتَكاتِ لَحظٍ أَرمَدٍ

    فَالعَضبُ يَقطَعُ ماضِياً وَصَقيلا

    Never think yourself safe from the deadly assaults of a glance from an inflamed eye;

    For the keen sword cuts, sharp and burnished.
