I fell for a full moon, harboring no ill will,
Unaware that magic draws people in.
When seized, Harut placed his magic
In your eyes, O Moses, and they became afflicted.
Since I left my nest, I have not found any caged bird
Who recalls home without a melting heart.
He yearned for the nest’s boughs, calling out
To the burrow, though Allah is victorious.
With greater longing than my own, perhaps
I’ll see Moses’ specter playfully in a dream.
