1. فَاح زهرُ الرّوضِ فَاشتَاق الهَزار

    ولِذَا قَد نَاح

    The garden's flowers bloomed, so the meadows yearned

    And the weeping willow wept

  2. حَول وردٍ وشَقِيقٍ وبَهَار

    سَوسنٌ أقَاح

    Around roses, stock, and spring blossoms

    Lilies flourished

  3. وغُصُونُ البَانِ مَاسَت طَربَا

    ونَمَا الإِشراق

    Branches of acacia swayed ecstatically

    And sunrise gleamed

  4. ولَيَالي الطَّلّ وشَّت عَجَبَا

    حُلَلَ الأوراق

    Nights of dew unleashed wonders

    Leaves donned gowns

  5. وعَبِيقُ الزّهرِ مَع نَشرِ الصَّبَا

    هَيَّج الأشواق

    Fragrance of flowers with morning breeze’s flutter

    Stirred up passions

  6. وبَكَى المُزن بِسُحبٍ فَاستَنَار

    جَدولُ الآقَاح

    Clouds wept, so the brook glistened

    Rivulets gushed

  7. فَحَسِبتُ البَرق إذ ذاك سِوَار

    غَادةٍ إذ لاح

    I fancied lightning a bracelet

    When it flashed

  8. يَا نَدِيميِي قَد شَذا زهرُ الرّبيعِ

    وشَدا المِنيَار

    My friend, the spring’s flowers have bloomed

    And waterfalls roared

  9. ورنَا النَّرجَسُ بِاللَّحظِ البَدِيعِ

    وجَرت أنهَار

    Narcissi echoed melodiously

    Rivers streamed

  10. وبِحُسنِ البِشر إذ عَمّ الجَمِيع

    غَرّدت أطيَار

    With people’s beauty embraced by all

    Birds chirped merrily

  11. فَاجتَنِ اللَّذاتِ واخلَعِ العِذار

    وامل لِي الأقداح

    So relish life’s joys, cast off gloom

    And fill my goblets

  12. وأدرِهَا كَشُعَاعِ الجُلَّنَار

    تَجلِبُ الأفراح

    Circulate them like beams of chandeliers

    That summon delights

  13. قَهوةً تُجلِي الأسَى عَن مُبتَلَى

    بِجَفَا الأحبَاب

    Coffee that dispels sorrow from the lovelorn

    With estranged beloveds

  14. نَشرُهَا كَالمِسكِ عِند الإِجتِلا

    تَسلُبُ الألبَاب

    Its aroma like musk in a gathering

    Captivates minds

  15. أخجَلَت شَمساً وبَدراً وطُلا

    مِن عَقِيقٍ ذاب

    Outshining sun, moon, and halo

    Of melting ruby

  16. مِن يَدي ظَبيٍ غَرِيرٍ ذِي نِفَار

    مُنعِشِ الأرواح

    From the hands of a tender, cooing gazelle

    Who revives souls

  17. نَاحِلِ الخِصرِ كَحِيلٍ بِاحوِرار

    طَرفُهُ الجَرّاح

    Slender-waisted like a wishful phantom

    Eyes batting flash

  18. فَرحِيقُ الأُنسِ يُهدِيهِ رشاً

    عَأطِرُ الأنفَاس

    The nectar of company offers a draft

    With fragrant breath

  19. اَيِّنُ العِطفِ بَدِيعٌ قَد نَشَا

    فِتنَةً لِلنَّاسِ

    The charm of affection, so wondrous unfurled

    Tempts all people

  20. جَرح القَلب بِلَحظٍ والحَشَا

    إن رنَا أو مَاس

    Wounds the heart with a glance, captivates and ensnares

    If it gleams or touches

  21. قَمَرٌ لَيلاً وشَمسٌ بِالنَّهَار

    حُسنُهُ الوضَّاح

    Moon at night and sun in the day

    Beauty evident

  22. فِي خِلالِ الرّوضِ غَازلتُ غَزال

    وصلُهُ مَحظُور

    Amongst the garden’s alleys, I flirted with a gazelle

    Its tryst forbidden

  23. قَد حَوى سِحراً وتَيهاً ودلال

    بِالبَهَا مَسرُور

    It encompassed magic, bewilderment, and allure

    Happy with splendor

  24. يُخجِلُ البَدر سَنَاهُ في الكَمَال

    وكَذاك الحُور

    Its brilliance humbles the full moon in perfection

    As well as nymphs

  25. صِحتُ مِن شَوقي وما عندي اصطبار

    بُلبُلَ الأفراح

    I cried from passion, unable to be patient

    Nightingale of joys

  26. مَا تَرى في شَائِقٍ يَبغِي المَزار

    يَاغِذا الأرواح

    What do you see in a yearning lover

    Who seeks visitation, O reviver of souls?

  27. قَال لِي ادنُ تَمَلّ فِي الخَفَرِ

    يَا أخَا الأشواق

    It said to me, come closer, stroll leisurely

    O fellow yearner

  28. في بَهَا اسٍ ونِسرِين زهَر

    نَزّهِ الأحداق

    In jasmine and eglantine flowers that bloom

    Delight your eyes

  29. وشَدا الطَّيرُ وشَادٍ بالوتَر

    فِي طَبعِ العِراق

    The birds trilled, competing with melody

    In Iraqi style

  30. وقِبَاب الماءِ تَجرِي بِانحِدار

    في الثَّرى قَد سَاح

    Domes of water cascade downstream

    Flowing on ground

  31. فَسَقَا ورداً وخَيرِي وبَهَار

    وكَذا التُّفَّاح

    It quenched with roses, fruit, and spring blossoms

    And apples too

  32. وهَجَعنَا تَحت غُصنٍ في الغَلَس

    حَولَنَا الرّيحَان

    We rested beneath a branch in the shade

    Chamomile around us

  33. غَرّد الطَّيرُ فَنَبَّه مَن نَعَس

    فَوق غُصنِ البَان

    The birds tweeted, rousing any sleepyheads

    On acacia branch

  34. وَسَقَاهَا عَنبرية النَّفَس

    تُذهِبُ الأحزان

    It breathed its aromatic soul

    Dispelling sorrows

  35. بَينَما نَحنُ نَشَاوى بِالعُقَار

    نَغنِمُ الأفراح

    While we indulged in conversation

    Seizing joys

  36. إذ دعَانَا السَّاق والفَجر استَنَار

    اصطَبِح يَا صاح

    Dawn gleamed, so the cupbearer called

    Awaken, O companion!
