عاطيتُهُ كأساً كأنَّ شُعَاعَهَا

شمسُ النهارِ يُضيئهُ إشراقُهَا

I gave him a cup as though the rays of the sun

Illuminate it with its rising light

انظر إليهِ كأنَّهُ مُتنصّلٌ

بجفونهِ ممّا جنت أحداقُهَا

Look at him as though he is wearing kohl

On his eyelids from what his glances have reaped

وكأنَّ صفحةَ خدّهِ وعِذارَهُ

تُفَّاحَةً حُفَّت بِهَا أوراقُهَا

And as though his cheek and beard

Were an apple enveloped by its leaves
