1. ألا أيها الوادي المقدّس بالندى

    وأهل الندى قلبي إليك مشوق

    O sacred valley with morning dew

    And people of dew, my heart longs for you

  2. ويا أيّها القصر المنيف قبابه

    على الزاب لا يسدد عليك طريق

    O elegant domed palace

    With no path leading to you on Al-Zaab

  3. ويا ملِكَ الزاب الرفيعَ عمادُه

    بقيتَ لجمع المجد وهو فريق

    O eminent king of high Al-Zaab

    You remain for glory though glory is fleeting

  4. على مالك الزاب السلام مردّدا

    وريحان مسك بالسلام فتيق

    On the king of Al-Zaab I repeat peace

    And the scent of musk with peace is exhilarating

  5. خليل من يهدي إليه تحيتي

    سقاه الحيا الوسميّ وهو غريق

    Khalil, whoever brings you my greetings

    The elixir of life has quenched his thirst though he was drowning

  6. فما أنس لا أنسَ الأمير إذا غدا

    يروع بمرأى ملكه ويروق

    So I cannot forget the prince when he sets out

    Startling with the sight of his kingdom, bringing joy

  7. ولا الجود يجري في صفيحة وجهه

    إذا لاح من ذاك الجبين شروق

    Nor can generosity flow on the plains of his face

    When the rising sun beams from that forehead

  8. وهزَّتَه للمجد حتى كأنما

    جرت في سجاياهُ العِذابِ رحيق

    Zeal for glory shook him as if

    The sweet nectar of glory streamed through his attributes

  9. كثيرُ دليلِ الخيرِ في الوجهِ واضحٌ

    جميلُ المحيا واللسانُ طليق

    The guide to good is evident on his face

    Graceful cheek and eloquent tongue

  10. أما وأبي تلك الشمائل إنها

    دليل على أن النجارَ عتيقُ

    By the witness of those attributes they are

    Proof the carpenter is a work of art

  11. فكيف بصبر النفس عنه ودونه

    من الأرض مغبر الفجاج عميق

    So how can the soul be patient without him

    When beyond him the land is deep, dusty desert

  12. وموحشة الأقراب يبدو سرابها

    كما قُيِّدت بين الفِحَالَةِ نوق

    The mirage of desolate kin appears

    As if tethered between saddle and camel

  13. حلفت له بالراقصات يهزُّها

    إلى اللَه وخدٌ دائم وعنيق

    I swore to him by the dancers he sways

    To Allah, constant of cheek and clingy of embrace

  14. لقد بات يسري في جنوبك لابسا

    لعزمك طَبُ بالجياد رفيق

    He has wandered your south wearing

    The armor of your resolve, stallions as companions

  15. فسار وسارت لفه وأمامه

    غمائم نصر تحتهنّ شروق

    He marched and before him marched

    Triumphant clouds with the rising sun beneath them

  16. وتسعةُ آلاف عليها عجاجة

    مسوّمة راياتهنّ خفوق

    And nine thousand mares atop them

    Bannered, their flags fluttering

  17. شهاب من الهيجا بكفّك ثاقب

    له خلف أفواه الدروب طريق

    A flaming meteor in your grip

    Piercing, with open roads behind

  18. إذا كذب الناس اللقاء فعنده

    يقين كفرقان الكتاب صدوق

    When people deny the encounter, in him is certainty

    Like the clarity of scripture, truthful and honest

  19. عجبت لمن حال الرجال بقربه

    ومن ظنّ أن العائقات تعوق

    I wonder at those who, by his approach, changed

    And thought obstacles could hinder

  20. إذا طاعة الأعداء لم تشف صدره

    شفاه صبوح من دم وغبوق

    If obeying enemies did not please him

    The lips of dawn with blood and coagulum would

  21. به عرفت تلك الأعاريبُ قهرَها

    فلا مارق يُخشَى عليه مَروق

    Through him those foreigners knew defeat

    So no dissenter is feared to defect

  22. فقد غدتِ الآجام وهي حدائق

    وعاد زئير الليث وهو شهيق

    You have restored the land and it became gardens

    The lion's roar returned but as a whimper

  23. سننتَ ليحيى سُنَّةً يقتدى بها

    ففت ومنه في الأمور لحوق

    You have established for Yahya a tradition to follow

    So in matters he emulates and pursues you

  24. كأنّك منه قيدَ مرأى ومسمَعٍ

    وإن هزَّهُ قلبٌ إليك خفوق

    You trusted Yahya's enemy to him but he would not

    Lift his gaze to the Lord of Retribution defiantly

  25. يراك أمام الجيش حتى كأنه

    حُذياكَ ثاوٍ أو إليكَ لصيق

    He is the man whose resolve does not waver

    As long as cunning remains narrow

  26. فلا هو عن مرآك فيه مغيَّبٌ

    ولا هو عن ذكراك فيه مُفيق

    A young man between whose eyelids slumber does not come

    Nor in his eyes does the taste of sleep appeal

  27. ويرضيك منه قلبُ الأمر حولٌ

    فتوق لما يُعيي الأنامَ رَتُوق

    When armor melts in the blaze you'd think him

    Sheltered by a Diyala tributary born yesterday

  28. أمنت على يحيى العدوّ ولم يكن

    ليرفَعَ في ربّ العُقابِ أنوقُ

    As if the affliction of heat covered him in a wrap

    That slides off when it intensifies and oozes

  29. هو المرء لا ينفكيرحب ذرعه

    لذا الروعِ ما دام المِكر يضيق

    You transcend, by Allah alone

    And through your name his worth ascends and climbs

  30. فتى لا يصير الغمضُ بين جفونه

    ولا طعمه في ناظريه يروق

    The East has answered your flashing blades

    And for it a thoroughbred among thoroughbreds

  31. إذا الدرعُ ذابت في الهجير حسبته

    بفيءٍ له بين الفُرات حديث

    Of varied hues, turned white with a marking

    As if ambergris had whitened the fine green cloth

  32. كأن عليه من أذى القيظ كلَّةً

    تُزَرّ إذا ما اشتدّ منه ودوق

    If each color were separated in itself

    Saffron and ruby would flow and melt from it

  33. تفوق وتعلو أنت باللَه وحدَه

    وباسمك يعلو قدرُه ويفوق

    Polished sides as if

    When liquid musk mixed into it, it drowned

  34. إليك أجاب الشرق عن صافناته

    وعنه جوادٌ في الجياد عريق

    Whether you come at him from behind or ahead

    He yawns, brays, and whinnies elegantly

  35. من الدهم ورد اللون شيبَ بكمتةٍ

    كما شيب بالمسك الفتيق خلوق

    He has a nose whose spirit none can tame

    Nor can breath be constrained within it

  36. فلو ميز منه كلُّ لون بذاته

    جرى سَبَجٌ منه وذاب عقيق

    He strains his hearing for the battle as if

    A poised fang, ready to stab

  37. تهلّل مصقول النواحي كأنّه

    إذا حال ماء المسك فيه غريق

    He looks with merciful eyes for young gazelles and finds joy in them

    He strides with silent steps though heavily

  38. إذا جئته من خلفه وأمامه

    تثاءب ضرغام وشال فنيق

    They fell boulders but softly land

    Eyes compete over him, and ears

  39. له منخر لا يملك البُهرُ أمره

    ولا مسرح الأنفاس فيه يضيق

    Winds gust behind him and lightnings flash

    Whether you see him competing - he will pierce

  40. وينصب للهيجاء سمعا كأنه

    سنان عتيد للطعان ذليق

    The hemisphere, outpacing all

    By my father's protected roads, he deserves

  41. وينظر من عيني رؤوم على طلا

    تراعيه بالوعساء فهوَ يروق

    To be favored in your company, fittingly

    He shall not drink turbid water

  42. ويخطو على صمّ خفاف وقوعها

    ثقيلٌ يُردّ الصخرَ وهو فليق

    Nor milk the ostrich, so salty

    Shall I commend him, though people know his merit

  43. تنافسُ فيه أعينٌ ومسامعٌ

    وتكبو رياح خلفه وبُروق

    And benevolence from him is not scarce?

    He hosted horses, and hosted their rider

  44. فإما تشاهده يجاري فإنه

    سينشقُّ عنه النقعُ وهو سبوق

    And made their saddle-blankets fine

    His dwelling refined tents

  45. أما وأبي الطرقِ المجنبِ إنه

    حريٌّ بأن يحظى لديك خليق

    His saddlebag Damascene, elegant

    His produce are your prized horses

  46. فلا يشربنَّ الماء وهو مكدرٌ

    ولا لبن الكوماءِ وهو مذيق

    All thoroughbreds, pedigreed

    Will the manifest truth that eschewed

  47. أأوصي به من علم الناس برها

    ولا يتقفى البرَّ منه عقوق

    The falsehood of days until it vanished

    Restore all manner of good deeds

  48. هو المكرم الخيلَ الكريمَ نجارُها

    وفارسُها والمشرفي دلوق

    After a long absence from those who destroyed them?

    Including prohibiting harm to neighbors, as if

  49. ومسكنُها الآطام وهي مشيدةٌ

    وملحفها القومي وهو أنيق

    For him among the Zan clan's lairs, a place

    And your victory for the truth which you represent

  50. وناتجُها تعزى إليه إذا اعتزت

    عناجيج جردٌ كلهن عتيق

    And your support for the anguished, drawing his last breaths

    If promises are made they are kept

  51. ألا أيها الحقّ المبين الذي انتحى

    على باطل الأيام فهو زهوق

    If a pact taken it is bound

    When a dignified man leaves his place

  52. تعودَ عاداتٍ من الخير كلُّها

    بعيد على من أمهنّ سحيق

    To you alone remains his path

    Whoever in your company does not uphold oaths

  53. فمنهن منعُ الجار حتى كأنما

    له في ذرى المزن الكنهورِ نيق

    You are a brother to the most distant, a sibling

    I have seen all people equals in your eyes

  54. ونصرك للحقّ الذي أنت أهله

    وعونك للملهوف وهو رهيق

    Be they intimate or stranger to you

    As if you are made of every temperament

  55. وإن سبقت منك المواعدُ أنجزَت

    وإن أخذ الميثاق فهو وثيق

    You are kind to all people

    You were the victorious hand of Mansur Hashim

  56. إذا فارق المرءُ الرفيعُ مكانُه

    فليس له إلا عليك طريق

    For that crushing blow when the knights charge

    A sword that, when unsheathed, terrorizes

  57. فمن كان لا يرعى بقربه ذمةً

    فأنت أخٌ للابعدين شقيق

    When the age inspires misgivings of turmoil

    You were but the full moon revealing darkness

  58. رأيتُ جميعَ الناس عندك أسوةً

    وإن كان فيهم كاشح وصديق

    When darkness blanketed the far reaches

    It aimed the arrows of tongues and sabers at you

  59. كأنك من كلّ الطباع مركب

    فأنت على كلّ العباد شفيق

    Yet their gullets gaped thirstily to you

    They are the populace whose tongues failed

  60. وكنت يدَ المنصور منصورِ هاشمٍ

    لذا البطش إذا أيدي الفوارس سوق

    To utter words and whose throats could not swallow the chill of drink

    Be as you or they wished, it matters not

  61. حسام وغاه إذا غدا ومجنَّه

    إذا خيف من ريب الزمان طروق

    For the arrow of the kingdom aims to none but you

    Thank not the world for attaining a position

  62. وما كنت إلا البدر يوري بك الدجى

    وقد عمّ آفاق البلاد غسوق

    You attained it truly deserving no credit

    May God be pleased with your anger at Him

  63. رمى بك آسادَ الأسنة والقنا

    وقد فغرَت منهُم إليك شُدوق

    Nothing in life seems befitting to me but you

    I have vowed, not to thank you for

  64. هو الشعب إذ لم تملك القول ألسن

    وإذا لم تسغ برد الشراب حُلوق

    Becoming provision for me with excess quantity

    If I show ingratitude for blessings, meeting you burdened

  65. فكن كيف شاء الناس أو شئت كائنا

    فليس لسهم الملك غيرك فوق

    Then I am truly a thief

    Can I forget when no voice brings news

  66. ولا تشكر الدنيا على نيل رتبة

    فما نلتها إلا وأنت حقيق

    When oblivion has overwhelmed me

    When no strength rises in my body

  67. رضى الله في ذا السخط منك على اللهى

    فلا شيء في الدنيا أراك تُليق

    When no saliva moistens my tongue

    You have abandoned me, when no hand of luck aids me

  68. وآليت لا آلوك شكرا على التي

    غدت لي وسقا زيد فيه وُسوق

    Nor time's heart provides company

    How many kind deeds you have done for me

  69. وإن أكفر النعمى وألقاك مثقلا

    بأعبائها إني إذن لسروق

    With a lineage in generosity, longstanding

    None faulted them but delusions' strikes

  70. أأنساك إذ لا يسمع الصوت نبأة

    وإذ أنا مغشي عليّ صعوق

    Except that I am drowning in their sea

    If you insist on obligating me with kindness

  71. وإذ أنا لم تنهض بجسميَ قوّة

    وإذ لم يُبَلَّل من لساني ريق

    Let not the deep sea submerge me

    My tongue falters from praise, sharp sword

  72. وأخلفتني إذ لا يد المُزنِ سمحةٌ

    علي ولا قلب الزمان رفيق

    Thought astray, precarious

    By your right, people submitting as servants

  73. وكم لك عندي من يد يمنية

    لها حسَبٌ في المكرمات عريق

    Equally, your servants or free

    You carried the age's nature despite its resistance

  74. وما عابَها من نائبات وعُود

    سوى انني في بحرهنّ غريق

    Loosening and correcting its deviance

    It has been purified until no corruption remains

  75. فإن كنتَ بالإحسان لا بدّ مُغرقي

    فلا يلقينِّي البحرُ وهو عميق

    Cleansed until no immorality flows

    For you the weaver tightened the robes' threads

  76. يكلّ لساني عنكمُ وهو صارم

    حسام وينبو الفكر وهو دقيق

    And the blacksmith forged the iron armor links

    No harm in being envied, it suits and complements

  77. بحقّكمُ أن تملكوا الناس أعبُدا

    سواء رقيق منهمُ وعتيق

    Your loftiness, deserving and fitting jealousy

    Those envious of your heights do not hurt you

  78. فأنتم نقلتم شيمةَ الدهر راغما

    وشُدّ بكم فيه ثأى وفتوق

    As your days contend with them dominatingly

    God has decreed the people their rights to you

  79. فثقف حتى ليس فيه تأوّد

    وطهر حتى ليس فيه فسوق

    While you owe no rights to the people

    Your lineages and souls have been noble

  80. لكم أحكَمَت حوكَ الجلابيب عبقَرٌ

    ونسجَ سَلُوقي الحديد سَلُوق

    Pleasing are your branches and roots

  81. ولا ضيرَ في أن تحسدوا إن ذلكم

    ليجمل في عليائكم ويليق

  82. وما ضركم من حاسديكم على العلى

    وأيامكم تحدو بهم وتسوق

  83. قضى الله أن يرعى الأنامَ حقوقَكم

    وليس عليكم للأنام حقوق

  84. لقد كرُمَت أحسابُكم ونفوسُكم

    وطابت فروع منكمُ وعروق
