1. ألُؤلُؤٌ دَمْعُ هذا الغيْثِ أم نُقَطُ

    ما كان أحْسنَنَهُ لو كان يُلتَقَطُ

    Are these drops of rain pearls or dots?

    How lovely they would be if they could be gathered

  2. بينَ السّحابِ وبينَ الريحِ مَلحمَةٌ

    قعاقِعٌ وظُبىً في الجوِّ تُخْتَرَطُ

    Between the clouds and the wind there is a battle

    Peals of thunder and rain pouring down from the sky

  3. كأنّهُ ساخِطٌ يَرضى على عَجَلٍ

    فما يدومُ رِضىً منه ولا سَخَط

    As if angry then quickly appeased

    But its pleasure does not last, nor its discontent

  4. أهْدى الرّبيعُ إلينا روضةً أُنُفاً

    كما تَنَفّسَ عن كافورهِ السَّفَط

    Spring has gifted us a delicate meadow

    As camphor's fragrance is emitted through perforations

  5. غمائمٌ في نواحي الجوِّ عاكفَةٌ

    جَعْدٌ تَحَدَّرَ منها وابلٌ سَبِط

    Clouds hovering around the edges of the sky

    Curly rain cascading down from them

  6. كأنّ تَهْتانَها في كُلِّ نَاحِيَةٍ

    مَدٌّ من البحرِ يعلو ثم ينهبط

    As if their twisting in every direction

    Is a wave from the sea rising then descending

  7. والبَرْقُ يَظهرُ في لألاءِ غُرَّتِهِ

    قاضٍ من المُزْنِ في أحكامه شَطط

    Lightning appears in the sheen of its pride

    An unjust judge in his rulings going too far

  8. وللجَديدَينِ من طُولٍ ومِن قِصَرٍ

    حَبْلانِ منُقَبضٌ عنّا ومُنبَسط

    Both thunder and lightning, long and short

    Are two ropes contracting and extending for us

  9. والأرْضُ تبسُطُ في خدِّ الثرى وَرَقاً

    كما تُنَشَّرُ في حافاتها البُسُطُ

    The earth lays out leaves on the bosom of the earth

    As carpets are spread out on its edges

  10. والرّيحُ تَبعَثُ أنفاساً مُعَطَّرَةً

    مثلَ العبيرِ بماءِ الوَرد يختلطِ

    The wind sends out fragrant breaths

    Like the scent of roses mixed in rosewater

  11. كأنّمَا هي أنفاسُ المعِزِّ سَرَتْ

    لا شُبْهَةٌ للنّدى فِيهَا ولا غَلَط

    As if they are breaths of the musk deer

    No doubt or error in them

  12. تاللّهِ لو كانتِ الأنْواءُ تُشْبِهُهُ

    ما مَرَّ بُوسٌ على الدّنْيا ولا قَنَط

    By God, if the breezes were like it

    No one in the world would despair or lose hope

  13. شَقّ الزمانُ لنا عن نورِ غُرّتِهِ

    عن دولةٍ ما بها وَهْنٌ ولا سَقَط

    Time opened for us its prideful radiance

    An era without weakness or downfall

  14. حتى تسلَّطَ منْهُ في الورى مَلِكٌ

    زينَتْ بدولتِهِ الأملاك والسُّلَط

    Until a king gained power over the people

    The kingdoms were adorned by his rule and authority

  15. يخْتَطُّ فوقَ النٌّجوم الزُّهْرِ مَنزِلَةً

    لم يَدْنُ منها ولم يُقْرَنْ بها الخِطَط

    He has made the stars his humble dwelling

    No scheme ever aimed so high

  16. إمامُ عدْلٍ وفَى في كلِّ ناحِيةٍ

    كما قضَوْا في الإمامِ العدلِ واشترطوا

    An imam of justice who fulfilled in every way

    As they decreed for the just imam and stipulated

  17. قد بانَ بالفضلِ عن ماضٍ ومُؤتَنِفٍ

    كالعِقدِ عن طرَفَيْه يفضُلُ الوسَط

    He surpassed the past and the novice

    Like a necklace's central bead outshines those on its edges

  18. لا يغتدي فَرِحاً بالمالِ يجمعُهُ

    ولا يبِيتُ بدُنْيا وهو مغتبط

    Not boastful because of the wealth he amasses

    Nor covetous of worldly things while content

  19. لكنّهُ ضِدُّ ما ظَنَّ الحسُودُ بهِ

    وفوقَ ما ينتهي غالٍ ومُنبسِط

    But the opposite of what the envious presumed of him

    And beyond what any pompous boaster imagined

  20. يُزْري بفَيض بحارِ الأرض لو جُمعتْ

    بنانُ راحتهِ المُغلَولِبُ الخَمِط

    He could provide the rain of sustenance to the lands combined

    With the surplus of his restrained coffers

  21. وجْهٌ بجَوْهَرِ ماء العرْشِ مُتّصِلٌ

    عِرْقٌ بمحض صريحِ المجد مرتبط

    A face connected to the celestial fount

    A lineage linked to the essence of absolute glory

  22. شمسٌ من الحقّ مملوءٌ مطالِعُها

    لا يهتَدي نحوها جَورٌ ولا شَطَط

    A sun from the Truth, its horizons filled,

    No injustice or deviation finds its way there

  23. يُرَوِّعُ الأُسْدَ منه في مكامنِها

    سيْفٌ له بيمِينِ النّصْرِ مخترَط

    In its lairs it terrifies the lions

    A sword forged by the right hand of victory

  24. خابتْ أُمّيةُ منه بالّذي طلبَتْ

    كما يَخيبُ برأسِ الأقْرَعِ المُشُط

    Umayyah was thwarted in its aims against him

    As the comb is frustrated by the bald man’s pate

  25. وحاولوا من حضيض الأرض إذ غضِبوا

    كواكباً عن مرامي شأوِهَا شَحَطوا

    In their anger they tried to pluck stars

    From the trajectories of those lofty lights

  26. هذا وقد فَرّقَ الفُرقانُ بينكما

    بحيْثُ يفترِقُ الرِّضْوانُ والسَّخَط

    The Criterion has separated you

    As pleasure is separate from anger

  27. الناسُ غيركُم العُرقوبُ في شَرفٍ

    وأنْتُمُ حيْثُ حَلَّ التّاجُ والقُرُط

    People other than you are downtrodden

    While you are where the crown and earrings reside

  28. ولستُ أشكُو لنفْسي في مودَّتِكُم

    لأنّكُمْ في فؤادي جِيرةٌ خُلُط

    Nor do I complain of your affection for me

    For you are dearer to my heart than its own pulsing

  29. يا أفضلَ الناس من عُرْبٍ ومن عَجَمٍ

    وآلِ أحمدَ إن شبّوا وإن شَمِطوا

    O best of Arabs and non-Arabs

    And the Family of Ahmad, whether they brandish swords or ink

  30. لِيَهْنَكَ الفَتْحُ لا أنّي سمِعتُ بهِ

    ولا على اللّهِ فيما شاءَ أشْتَرِط

    May triumph befall you; not that I heard of it

    Nor on what God wills do I place conditions

  31. لكن تفاءلْتُ والأقدارُ غالِبَةٌ

    واللّهُ يَبْسُطُ آمالاً فتنبسِط

    But I am hopeful, for destiny is supreme

    And God expands hopes so they spread

  32. ولستُ أسألُ إلاّ حاجَةً بَلَغَتْ

    سُؤلَ الإمام بها الرُّكّاضَةُ النُّشُط

    I ask only for something that has reached

    The Imam's request when the elite strove

  33. من فوْقِ أدهَمَ لا يَجتازُ غايَتَهُ

    نجمٌ من الأفُقِ الشمسيِّ منخرط

    Above the dusky steed none can surpass its limit

    A star detached from the solar horizon

  34. يَحْتَثُّهُ راكبٌ ضاقَتْ مذاهبُهُ

    بادي التشحُّبِ في عُثْنُونِه شَمَط

    Mounted by a rider whose paths are straitened

    Wandering in the desolate darkness, his mantle torn

  35. إنّ الملوكَ إذا قِيسوا إليكَ معاً

    فأنتَ من كثرةٍ بحرٌ وهم نُقَط

    Verily when kings are compared to you together

    You are an ocean, and they are but drops
