قَد أَغتَدي في صُبحِ لَيلٍ فاشِ
بِنَيرَجٍ لَهبٍ مُلَبٍّ ناشِ
I have become, at the dawn of a long night,
A flame, a blaze, intense and bright,
مُعَلَّمٍ مُنَخِّرٍ فَشّاشِ
يُسائِلُ الأَرضَ عَنِ المَعاشِ
Decorated, emitting smoke, forceful,
Asking the land about livelihood,
مُلتَقِطٍ لِلكَلَإٍ المُنحاشِ
كَلَقطِكَ المَشيبَ بِالمِنقاشِ
Picking up scattered fodder plants,
Like you pick up white hair with tweezers.
أَميرُ كُلِّ طائِرٍ وَماشِ
مِن أَكلُبٍ يَطِرنَ كَالفَراشِ
Leader of every bird and walking beast
Of barking dogs flying like moths
فَهمُ إِلى أَشارِسٍ عِطاشِ
تُصانُ لِلصَيدِ عَنِ الهِراشِ
Yearning for the hunting falcon’s signals
Protected from the buzzing insects.
