أَلا تَسأَلونَ اللَهَ بُرءَ مُتَيَّمٍ
تَمَكَّنَ مِنهُ السَقمُ في اللَحمِ وَالدَمِ
Pray, will you not ask God to cure a man enthralled by love?
Illness has taken firm hold of him, in flesh and blood.
وَرُدّوا دُموعَ الشَوقِ بَينَ جُفونِهِ
يُفِق رَو فَرُدَّ لَحمَهُ فَوقَ أَعظُمِ
Turn his tears of longing back within his eyelids,
that he may recover—raw [textually uncertain]—then restore his flesh upon my bones.
وَقَد قَيَّدوا غَيرَ الفَقيهِ بِأَمرِهِ
وَمَن يَلقَ ما لاقى مِنَ الناسِ يَعلَمِ
They have fettered one who is not versed in his affair;
and whoever suffers what he suffered at people’s hands will understand.
