وَلَمّا عَدَت خَيلُنا لِلطِرادِ

جَعَلنا إِلى الدَيرِ ميعادَها

When our horses returned from raiding

We set the monastery as their destination

وَقادَ مُكَلِّبُنا ضُمَّراً

سَلوقيَّةً طالَما قادَها

And our hound Mukallib led them

A seasoned leader long their guide

مُعَلَّمَةً مِن بَناتِ الرِيا

حِ إِذا سَأَلَت عَدوَها زادَها

Adorned by the daughters of the desert rain

Who ask their foe for provisions when they charge

وَتُخرِجُ أَفواهَها أَلسُناً

كَشَقِّ الخَناجِرِ أَغمادَها

And bare teeth like daggers leaving sheaths

They made a catch but did not bloody it

فَأَمسَكنَ صَيداً وَلَم تُدمِهِ

كَضَمِّ الكَواعِبِ أَولادَها

As young lionesses clasp their cubs
