قَد كَشَفَ الدَهرُ عَن يَقيني
قِناعَ شَكّي في كُلِّ شَيِّ
Time has stripped from my certainty
the veil of my doubt about all things;
لا بُدَّ مِن أَن يَحُلَّ مَوتٌ
عُقَدَ نَفسٍ مِن كُلِّ حَيِّ
it is inevitable that death should unfasten
my soul’s bonds with every living being.
